Scope:

To deal with the increasing complexity of software systems and
uncertainty of their environments, software engineers have turned to
self-adaptivity. Self-adaptive systems are capable of adjusting their
behavior in response to their perception of the environment and the
system itself in a predictable manner. In this context, the fact that
human administrators get more and more overstrained by management
tasks has led to the idea of systems that manage themselves, i.e.,
self-managing systems.

Since nowadays society is highly dependent on adaptive and self-managing
systems, these systems should be dependable. In order to support
dependability requirements, they attempt to “heal” themselves in the
sense of recovering from faults and regaining normative performance
levels autonomously, specially, in life-critical or safety-critical
systems.

This workshop will allow the research and industry communities to
discuss questions such as: (i) How to design systems to heal
themselves of system faults and to survive malicious attacks? (ii) To
what extent usual fault tolerance techniques are suitable for
self-managing systems? (iii) How to deal with the impact upon
safety-critical systems in case the self-adaptation fails? (iv) How
context-aware systems can also benefit from modern techniques, such as
Aspect-oriented Programming (AOP), Model-driven Development (MDD), and
Software Product Line (SPL) paradigms, in order to support high levels
of dependability? (vi) How to guarantee a certain degree of Quality
of Service (QoS) in adaptive and self-managing systems?

To this end, this workshop will provide researchers and practitioners
with a forum to exchange ideas and experiences, analyze research &
development issues, discuss promising solutions, and propose new
directions in the field of dependability applied to adaptive and
self-managing systems.

Topics:

We welcome submissions addressing topics across the full spectrum of
dependability in adaptive and self-managing systems. Topics
include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Software fault tolerance techniques based on design diversity applied to
adaptive and self-managing systems.
- Exception handling mechanisms applied to adaptive and self-managing
systems.
- Dependable pervasive/ubiquitous systems.
- Dependability in wireless sensor networks.
- Use of fault injections techniques to analyze dependability
requirements of adaptive and self-managing systems.
- Use of product line concepts in adaptive and self-managing systems.
- Use of AOP and/or MDD techniques to support dependability in adaptive
and self-managing systems.
- Proofs of concept, industrial experiences or empirical evaluations
related to the engineering of self-healing systems.
- Solutions to support self-managing systems that are able to survive
malicious attacks.
- Validation, testing and verification of self-managing systems.
- Robustness and dependability of adaptive and self-managing systems
related to cloud-computing and service-oriented architectures.
- Software architectures for self-managing systems to support
high level of dependability (self-organization, self-adaptation,
self-management, self-monitoring, self-tuning, self-repair,
self-configuration, etc.)
- Solutions to continuously guarantee a certain degree of Quality of
Service (QoS) in self-managing systems.
- Safety and reliability analysis in adaptive and self-managing systems,
including, but not limited to, those based on cloud computing and service
oriented architectures.
- Self-adaptation in life-critical or safety-critical systems.

Submission:

Papers should be written in English and can be submitted in the following
categories:
** Regular papers (up to eight pages): it should present contributions from
both academy and industry; and
** Position papers (up to four pages): it should present new ideas,
positions, or perspectives of research.

Only original papers (not published or under review elsewhere) should be
submitted. All submissions must be made electronically through JEMS in
[https://submissoes.sbc.org.br]. Submissions must adhere to the IEEE
Computer Society camera-ready 8.5"x11" two-column camera-ready format.
This format includes 10 point font on 12 point spacing for body text, and
other details described in the author guidelines on this site
[http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting]. Pages must be
numbered.

Proceedings:

Accepted papers should be revised according to the recommendations of
the Program Committee and will be published by the Brazilian Society
Press. If accepted, the corresponding author is committing to present
the paper at the workshop. Authors of accepted papers are required to
register for the workshop and present the paper at the workshop in
order to the paper to be included in the proceedings.
