Call for Papers: Special Track on Smart Grid and Smart Technologies (SGST)

Track Website: http://scl.cs.nmt.edu/sac13/
**********************************************************************************

1. Track Description

With Smart Grid becoming global interests, new smart hardware, software, and services have surfaced and redefined the energy infrastructure, increasing energy efficiency, economics, and reliability. New smart solutions have been developed and used in various horizontal and vertical components of the Smart Grid ecosystem. With increasing interest in Smart Grid, however, there is an urgent need to address some critical issues and challenges that this emerging computing application domain is faced with, for instance, how to establish Smart Grid standards, protocols, and how to protect the consumers? privacy when using smart meter systems.

The SGST track aims at bringing together Smart Grid researchers, experts, and practitioners from academia, industry, and government, to discuss current trends in research, practices, and education efforts for these environments. The SGST track also intends to foster the identification of the risks and challenges facing SGST and approaches for solving them. The following topics will be covered in the proposed track:

- Smart Grid Architectures and Models
- Smart Grid Communication Protocols
- Smart Grid Business Protocols and Models
- Smart Devices and Applications Development
- Smart Solutions in Smart Grid Ecosystems
- Smart Grid Compliance Management
- Smart Grid Standards and Interfaces
- Cyber-Physical Systems in Smart Grid
- Best Practices of Smart Grid and Infrastructure
- Cyber Security in Smart Grid
- Digital Forensics in Smart Grid

2. Submission Guideline

Papers that offer novel research contributions in the above-mentioned areas are solicited for the special track on Smart Grid and Smart Technologies. Papers must be written in English. The file format should be PDF, and papers must be formatted according to the template available at the SAC 2013 website. ACM SAC has the double blind review policy. Hence, the submission must be anonymous; no author name and affiliation must appear in the body of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. The length of accepted regular papers is 6 pages (covered by registration fee) with additional 2 pages (extra charge), so the maximum length of the regular papers will be 8 pages. The length of accepted poster papers is 2 pages (covered by registration fee) with additional 1 page (extra charge), so the maximum length of the poster papers will be 3 pages. Submission of papers is through the START conference system at https://www.softconf.com/c/sac2013/.

Paper registration for the conference is required and allows the paper to be printed in the conference proceedings. An author or a proxy attending SAC must present the paper. This is a requirement for the paper to be included in the ACM/IEEE digital library. No-show of scheduled papers will result in excluding the papers from the ACM/IEEE digital library.

3. Student Research Competition (***New for SAC13***)

Student Research Competition (SRC) Program: Graduate students are invited to submit research abstracts (minimum of 2-page and maximum of 4-page) following the instructions published at SAC 2013 website. Submission of the same abstract to multiple tracks is not allowed. All research abstract submissions will be reviewed by researchers and practitioners with expertise in the track focus area to which they are submitted. Authors of selected abstracts will have the opportunity to give poster presentations of their work and compete for three top-winning places. The SRC committee will evaluate and select First-, Second-, and Third- place winners. The winners will receive cash awards and SIGAPP recognition certificates during the conference banquet. Authors of selected abstracts are eligible to apply to the SIGAPP Student Travel Award program for support.

4. Important Dates

- Paper submission deadline: September 21, 2012
- Notification of acceptance: November 10, 2012
