Special Issue on Prediction and Simulation in Software Engineering

Submission site: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/e-InformaticaSEJ

SCOPE OF SPECIAL ISSUE

Successful software projects are usually projects that are managed well. The management process requires various analytical tasks that provide support for decision makers. This support is achieved through different activities that can be summarized as Prediction and Simulation. Prediction is related to forecasting the future or explaining the current state of system or its part using a model, algorithm or tool. Estimation is similar to prediction, but may involve a higher degree of human judgement for assessing the state based on their knowledge without the need of formal representation of investigated area. Simulation deals with comparing the outcomes generated from models, algorithms and tools for various scenarios in order to find the new knowledge and the guidelines with the right way to go.

The aim of this issue is to present recent advances in Prediction and Simulation in Software Engineering (PreSSE) regarding a wide range of applications (e.g. software/tests quality/defect prediction, software development effort/cost prediction), solutions (e.g. metrics, algorithms, approaches, theories) and data (e.g. software process, product, usage, social, text-based and trace data).

TOPICS OF INTEREST RELATED TO PREDICTION AND SIMULATION IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

• Software/tests quality or defects
• Software development effort or cost
• Novel/emerging application areas (e.g. tests quality prediction)
• Novel/emerging solutions (incl. metrics, algorithms, models, approaches, theories, tools)
• Empirical evaluation of different solutions
• Detection/overcoming of software project problems (e.g. death march)
• Detection/overcoming problems with existing solutions (e.g. situations when old models are no longer relevant)
• Applications of data mining, statistics and machine learning (incl. fuzzy and rough sets) in software engineering

SUBMISSION AND IMPORTANT DATES

Submissions should describe original contributions and should not have been published or under review elsewhere. You are welcome to submit an extended version of an earlier conference paper if the extension is sufficiently novel, important, described in detail and includes a reference to the corresponding proceedings. Manuscripts should be prepared for publication in accordance with instructions given in the Guide for Authors (http://www.e-informatyka.pl/attach/e-Informatica_-_Downloads/AuthorGuide2.zip). Original papers should be send by submission deadline via an on-line submission system: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/e-InformaticaSEJ

Submission deadline: September 1, 2012
First decision for the submitted manuscripts: November 15, 2012
Submission of the revised manuscripts: January 1, 2013
Final decision: March 1, 2013
Submission of camera-ready copy: April 1, 2013
Planed Issue: 2013
