Trends and Strategic Issues for Libraries in Global Information Society

March 18-19, 2008,

Department of Library & Information Science
Panjab University, Chandigarh-160014

Sponsored by ICSSR (North Western Regional Center), Chandigarh.

Scope of the Seminar:

The tidal wave of ICT has already started compelling Libraries and Information Centers to analyze new trends and work out strategies so as to play a vital role in the newly emerging global information society. It has not only brought a change in the library and information services, but also on the roles of librarians and information professionals. Some of the challenges that the information professionals are required to strategically address include digital divide, information society, e-learning, e-governance, open source, etc. They have to stay relevant in increasingly fluid and dynamic Information Society by incorporating strategic foresight to explore new markets, products and services and ultimately meet emerging customer needs. In this context, the Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing a two-day ICSSR sponsored Seminar during the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2007-08. The deliberations of the experts and subsequent discussions during the Seminar will help develop insight into the strategic issues and will provide the road map for building the global information society.
