Dear Colleagues

The 17th Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition CIARP 2012 will be
held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, September 3-6, 2012, and is organized by
the Argentine Society for Pattern Recognition (SARP) and the University
of Buenos Aires.

This conference is a forum for the presentation of technological advances
and research results in the fields of theoretical and applied pattern
recognition, for the exchange of scientific results and experiences, and
for the growth of the co-operation between research groups.

This conference is supported by the following scientific associations:
International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), Cuban
Association for Pattern Recognition (ACPR), Mexican Association for
Computer Vision, Neural Computing and Robotics (MACVNR), Portuguese
Association for Pattern Recognition (APRP), Spanish Association for
Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis (AERFAI), Special Interest Group on
Pattern Recognition of the Brazilian Computer Society (SIGPR-SBC), Chilean
Association for Pattern Recognition (AChiRP) and Argentine Association for
Pattern Recognition (SARP, division of SADIO, the Argentine Society for Informatics).

As in previous years, at the CIARP Conference about 200 contributions will
be presented. The program committee will evaluate papers for technical
quality, merit, novelty and clarity of presentation.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Applications of Pattern Recognition
• Artificial Intelligence Techniques in PR
• Bioinformatics

Paper Submission:

Prospective authors are invited to contribute to the conference by electronically submitting a full paper in English of no more than 8 pages including illustrations, results and references. All submissions will be peer reviewed for originality, technical content and relevance to the theme of this conference by three members of the Program Committee. The final acceptance will be based upon double blind peer review of the full length paper.
They will be requested to submit their papers electronically through the conference website before April 1st, 2012. The accepted papers will be included in the proceedings of the CIARP'2012, which will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science - LNCS series.
The papers should be prepared following the instructions from Springer LNCS series available at:
http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0
The papers should be submitted for double-blind review. There must be no identification of the authors in the submitted paper (i.e. No names, affiliations, etc).
At least one of the authors must be registered at the Conference, for the paper to be published.

Special Issue in the Journal of Pattern Recognition Letters

Best papers presented at CIARP 2012 within the research area Robust Recognition Methods for Multimodal Interaction will be selected. Revised and extended versions of these papers will be considered for the edition of a Special Issue in the Journal of Pattern Recognition Letters.
This special issue will focus on advances of pattern recognition algorithms related to multimodal systems. Of particular interest in the special issue are real-time applications of multimodal interfaces to healthcare, assistive technologies, robotics, entertainment and context-aware systems as well as applications to support the well-being of the general population and individuals with physical impairments.
Topics considered within this special issue include, but are not limited to, robust algorithms to support the following:

Gaze-based multimodal interfaces
Human Robot multimodal systems
Voice-based multimodal interfaces
Multimodal assistive technologies
Hand/face gesture-based interfaces
Applications of multimodal interfaces
Haptic-based multimodal interfaces
Robustness and flexibility of perceptual systems
Brain-computer interfaces
Probabilistic and multi-hypothesis interpreter frameworks
Neuromuscular interfaces
Cognitive architectures for multimodal interfaces

Among the accepted papers, a set of the best papers within the area of
real-time image processing/computer vision will be selected. Revised and
extended versions of these papers will be considered for the edition of
a Special Issue in the Journal of Real-Time Image Processing

IPOL Publication of Algorithms!!
***************************************************************************
The submitted papers can be complemented by a submission to the online
journal IPOL (Image Processing on Line, ISSN: 2105-1232). The evaluations
of the submissions to CIARP 2012 and to IPOL will be independent, but
coordinated. Only the algoritms corresponding to accepted papers at Ciarp2012
will be considered for publication in Ipol

To submit to Image Processing on Line, authors are requested to furnish a
very explicit and complete algorithm description in a .pdf document, and
to prepare an autonomous C or C++ code implementing this algorithm.
Authors must also conceive how their algorithm will be demonstrated on
line, which may imply some restrictions on the input data and on the
execution time. The referees for IPOL are invited to check the full
adequacy of the code with its description, to achieve standards of
reproducible research.

For more details please go to http://www.ipol.im/ to see some of the
published papers.
