Intelligent Audio Processing represents an emerging trend in audio technology that defines signal-adaptive methods for processing audio data, using high-level signal analysis. Typical examples may include feature extraction methods, classification techniques for mapping feature data to high-level descriptors and adaptive audio effects targeted to specific application areas, such as pitch-processing effects, blind source separation for upmixing and multichannel reproduction and automated live mixing. On the other hand, the same signal-adaptive approach can be inspired by nature (i.e. through genetic evolution, social behaviour of organisms or life-like forms creation) or realized through machine learning, following computational intelligence methodologies, targeted to the creation of music and the synthesis of sound.
This special session highlights original contribution of works to address the recent theory, methods and practices in intelligent audio processing and music composition, under a unified scope. We invite original, high quality submissions with substantial contributions to this special session, of which the topics of interest include but are not limited to: -Time-frequency and spectral processing -Sound spatialization -Information retrieval and audio analysis -Automatic channel mixing/upmixing and source separation -Music classification -Automated music orchestration -Bio-inspired music composition -Non-linear dynamics for music synthesis -Unsupervised/algorithmic music composition -Subjectively driven music evolution SPECIAL SESSION ORGANIZERS: Assist. All contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review period. Contributions from application-oriented fields in industry and commerce are also welcome. Each paper should follow the IEEE paper format (DOC, LaTex Formatting Macros, PDF) with the title, the authors' names, affiliations and email addresses, an abstract with up to 150 words, and a two-column body with 4 single-spaced pages and with font size at 10 pts. All papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format only. Details of the required paper format are available at the official IIH-MSP 2012 website (http://iihmsp12.unipi.gr).
