Topics

Take this opportunity to present new methods, techniques, and tools to an interdisciplinary scientific community or discuss how to standardize and optimize existing practices.

Topics related to any aspects of methods for the measurement of human and animal behavior are welcome. In previous conferences topics have included:

• New statistical methods and behavioral pattern analysis

• Behavioral testing of zebrafish

• Home cage phenotyping and other measurements

• Measuring the user experience

• Translational models of disease

• Measuring player experience in gaming

• New developments in GPS tracking

• Eye tracking, gaze analysis and facial recognition

• Automatic gesture recognition

• Automatic detection of behaviors

• Behavior and physiology

• Analysis of communication

• Gait analysis in animals and humans

• Human factors measurements

• Human behavior in traffic and urban environments

• Developments in tests for learning and memory in rodents

• Psychological measurements of behavior

• Measurement of behavior of insects

• Motion analysis and tracking

• Measuring consumer behavior

• Teaching the measurement of behavior

• Behavioral and wildlife ecology

• Animal welfare

Submission

Workshops and Special Session proposals can be mailed directly to the SPC chair. All other items should be submitted using the online submission system. Posters and oral presentations must use the style guide. For more details, see the submission page of the conference website.

Deadlines

• Oral papers, posters, demonstrations and tutorials – 1 April 2012

Program elements

Measuring Behavior 2012 will have the following items in the scientific program:

• General sessions – Oral presentations on a variety of topics, submitted as individual papers

• Special sessions – Oral presentations organized by a session chair who brings together a group of speakers on a particular topic

• Posters – These will be on display for the entire conference and there will be sessions where the authors will stand next to their posters to discuss them

• Workshops – Interactive sessions around a special theme

• Demonstration showcase – New prototypes of measuring devices and software

• Tutorials – Explanation of established methods and techniques

In addition there will be social events, scientific tours, an exhibition of instruments and software, and user meetings.

PhD Students

The scientific program committee encourages research to be presented by the scientists who have carried it out.PhD and MSc students qualify for a reduced registration fee and there are a limited number of travel grants available.
