SBiND 2027 Speech Biomarkers for Neurodegenerative Diseases: Signal Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical Translation May 17, 2027 – Toronto, Canada https://www.sbind.icar.cnr.it/ Satellite Workshop of the 2027 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing – ICASSP 2027 Submit your paper: https://cmsworkshops.com/ICASSP2027/papers/submission.asp?ID=7&Type=WS =============================================================== MISSION: Neurodegenerative diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease progressively affect speech production through changes in motor control, cognition, language, and respiratory function. Speech and voice therefore represent promising non-invasive and easily accessible biomarkers for supporting disease assessment, monitoring progression, and evaluating treatment response. SBiND 2027 aims to bring together researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry professionals working on speech and voice biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases. The workshop will promote interdisciplinary discussion on the development of reliable signal-processing and artificial-intelligence methods and their translation into clinically meaningful and deployable solutions. Building on previous research and challenge-based initiatives in this field, SBiND will address the methodological, clinical, and technological barriers that currently limit the generalizability, interpretability, reproducibility, and real-world adoption of speech-based biomarkers. The workshop will include contributed papers, invited talks, and a multidisciplinary panel, providing a forum for sharing recent advances, clinical perspectives, open challenges, and future research directions. TOPICS: Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Speech and voice biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases • Speech signal processing for neurological assessment and monitoring • Acoustic, phonetic, prosodic, linguistic, and conversational biomarkers • Artificial intelligence and machine learning for speech-based assessment • Deep learning, self-supervised learning, and foundation models • Automatic detection, classification, and differential diagnosis • Longitudinal modelling and disease-progression prediction • Multilingual, cross-lingual, and cross-corpus generalization • Domain adaptation and robust learning across recording conditions • Explainable and clinically interpretable artificial intelligence • Multimodal integration of speech, language, clinical, imaging, and sensor data • Digital phenotyping and remote patient monitoring • Mobile, wearable, and telemedicine solutions for speech assessment • Data quality, annotation protocols, and dataset harmonization • Privacy-preserving learning and secure health-data processing • Federated learning for distributed clinical data • Bias, fairness, ethics, and responsible AI in clinical applications • Reproducibility, benchmarking, and open science • Clinical validation and real-world deployment • Human-centred technologies and clinician–AI collaboration • Regulatory and translational challenges for speech-based digital biomarkers IMPORTANT DATES: • Paper submission deadline: November 11, 2026 • Notification of paper acceptance: December 16, 2026 • Camera-ready paper submission: January 6, 2027 • Workshop date: May 17, 2027 PAPER SUBMISSION: Authors are invited to submit original research contributions addressing the workshop topics. Submitted papers must follow the ICASSP 2027 paper style, formatting, and length requirements. Papers may contain a maximum of four pages of technical content, including figures and references, with an optional fifth page containing references only. Papers must be submitted through the official ICASSP 2027 Satellite Workshop submission system: https://cmsworkshops.com/ICASSP2027/papers/submission.asp?ID=7&Type=WS All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process managed independently by the SBiND 2027 Technical Program Committee. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library under a separate ICASSP 2027 Satellite Workshop record number. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop and present the paper in person. Papers that are not presented in accordance with the conference policies will be withdrawn from the official proceedings. BEST PAPER AWARD: A Best Paper Award certificate will be presented to the author or authors of an outstanding paper presented at SBiND 2027. The winning contribution will be selected by the Workshop Chairs based on scientific significance, originality, methodological quality, clinical relevance, and the evaluations of the Technical Program Committee.
