Call For Papers

Editorial team of The Polish Journal of the Arts and Culture. New Series invites you to submit articles for thematic issue 2/2027, the topic of which will be: "Between Past and Future. Beliefs, Religious Practices and Spiritual Cultures in Latin America”.

"The Polish Journal of the Arts and Culture. New Series" is a peer-reviewed scientific journal devoted to in-depth reflection on broadly understood culture – its nature, the processes changing its shape in the past and today, as well as the forms it takes and has taken in various civilization circles.

In the planned thematic volume, we invite you to reflect on the diverse forms of beliefs, religious practices, and spiritual cultures in Latin America, focusing on the ways in which traditions, memories, and transformations shape religious experiences across different historical and cultural contexts. Rather than theoretical studies on religion and spirituality in general, the focus of the volume will be specific manifestations of Latin American beliefs, practices, and spiritual devotions, from historical formations to contemporary expressions.

With this in mind, the editors of the volume invite you to consider, in particular, the following issues:
• religious beliefs and spiritual practices across different Latin American cultures and societies;
• Indigenous cosmologies;
• Pre-Hispanic rituals, beliefs and mythologies;
• Afro-Latin religious traditions and spiritual practices;
• evolution of Catholicism: from conquest and inquisition to the theology of liberation;
• popular religiosity and folk forms of devotion;
• Protestant and evangelical movements in Latin America;
• religious stigmatization and discrimination;
• syncretism, hybridity, and interactions between different religious traditions;
• esoteric market of Latin America and commercialization of faith;
• aesthetics and materialities: religious art and religion in arts;
• religion, politics and social movements;
• spiritual cultures in the times of migrations, globalization, and cultural transformation;
• case studies of specific manifestations of Latin American beliefs, religious practices, and spiritual worlds.

Regardless of those mentioned, the editorial office is open to other topics that fall within the presented Call For Papers. If you have any doubts, we encourage you to consult the proposed topics with the Editors of the volume.

Due to the specific theme of the volume and the profile of the journal, texts adopting cultural studies, anthropological, or interdisciplinary perspective, which explore Latin American religious and spiritual cultures, are particularly welcome.

Regardless of the historical period discussed, proposed articles should focus on specific manifestations of beliefs, practices, and spiritual experiences, while addressing the cultural, social, political or symbolic contexts in which they emerge. Comparative perspectives and approaches exploring interactions between different religious systems, communities, and forms of spirituality of Latin America are especially encouraged.
Please send texts only in English in electronic form to pjac@uj.edu.pl, taking into account the formal requirements posted on the journal's website, in the 'Instruction for Authors' tab. In the title of your email please write PJAC.NS 2/2027.

For further guidelines see: https://www.ejournals.eu/PJACNS/menu/574/

In the separate document please write your name, affiliation and ORCID number (if available). The main article should be free of any mention of the Author(s)’ names.

The deadline for submitting articles for thematic issue 2/2027 is November 30, 2026.

Articles that do not meet the formal or thematic requirements will not be accepted. The editorial office reserves the right to contact only the Authors of the texts accepted for the review process.
