The ongoing developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning automation announce an imminent technological revolution like nothing we have ever seen. Our relation to traditional labor markets, artistic creation, and modes of education has already been drastically disrupted and will potentially change even more. It seems that we are witnessing the dawn of a new age in which human intellectual and productive capacities are outsourced to machines and human connection is mediated by algorithms in digital spaces.
Standing at the threshold of this new era, The Scattered Pelican invites both scholarly and editorial reviews of academic books (Monographs or Edited Collections) as well as academically-loaded and well-resourced works of fiction. The reviewed book must be published during the past five years (after April 1, 2021) and focused on the dichotomy of human value and its disruption by technological advance. Examples of other possible themes are: • Human (dis)connection • The meaning and/or value of humanity • Vibe and how it defines/explains human experiences • Human adaptation, resistance, or obsolescence in face of new technology • Disruption as (dis)advantage for humankind • New Ethical/Existential questions raised by the advent of AI • Any other topic relevant to the general theme beyond these few examples We accept submissions from Graduate students, Scholars and University Instructors at different stages of their career, and independent researchers who hold a PhD. All book reviews must be written in English and be 1000–2000 words in length. The word count must be inclusive of the Works Cited and endnotes, and all texts must follow the MLA style (9th edition). Please submit your reviews using our submission form, along with a 50-word biography, by April 10, 2026. Full submission guidelines can be found on our website: www.thescatteredpelican.ca Questions and Inquiries: contact@thescatteredpelican.ca We look forward to reading your submissions.
