Conference name: Special Session on Rapid Prototyping of Biomimetic Biodevices
In conjunction with the 5th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies - BIOSTEC 2012 Venue: Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal Conference date: 1-4 February, 2012 Chair Andrés Díaz Lantada Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Spain Scope and Topics Biomimicry or biomimesis is the close examination of nature's models, processes, systems and elements to take inspiration for solving human technological problems in innovative and more efficient ways. Considering a more specific area of interest, biomimetic biodevices are designed and manufactured for improving the interactions between synthetic developments and biological organisms, thus helping to promote different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for several pathologies. In the development process of novel devices, rapid prototyping technologies, together with computer-aided design, engineering and manufacturing software, have emerged in the last two decades as very powerful elements for optimizing time-to-market, final cost and global results. Recent advances in medical imaging, design technologies, computational tools, micro and nanomanufacturing processes, among others, have helped to increase the possibilities and impact of rapid prototyping oriented to advanced biomimetic biodevices. The special session will pay attention to all aspects linked to recent advances in the field or rapid prototyped biomimetic biodevices, including new (bio)materials and (post)processes linked to rapid prototyping, improvements in prototyping technologies, biomimetic design procedures based on medical imagning, biomimetic design procedures based on fractal geometries, rapid form copying of natural objects and organisms and multidisciplinary bioinspired processes. Applications such as: - Personalized prosthesis - Active implantable devices based on "intelligent" or "smart" materials - Biomimetic scaffolds for tissue engineering - Biodevices for improved diagnosis - Biomimetic sensors and actuators - Technical helps - Ergonomic products Important Dates Paper Submission: November 7, 2011 Authors Notification: November 25, 2011 Final Paper Submission and Registration: December 9, 2011 Contacts: BIOSTEC Secretariat Address: Av.
