Call For Papers

Dear colleagues,
We invite you to submit your research to the “Artificial Intelligence-based Assistants and Platforms” minitrack of HICSS-58, Hawaii, January 7-10, 2025. Since 2021 this minitrack has emerged as the platform for research on AI-based assistants and platforms, such as speech-based assistants like Alexa as well as text-based assistants like ChatGPT. If you are pursuing research in these areas, please consider submitting a paper. You will find all relevant information below as well as on the conference webpage: Please note that the minitrack has a record of fast-track papers in the collection: "AI-based assistants and platforms" in the journal Electronic Markets (https://link.springer.com/collections/jibdjaebdf ), which has again been organized for HICSS 2025.
The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2024.
We look forward to passing on the call for papers and are happy to provide explanatory information.

Best regards

1. Minitrack Theme
The Artificial Intelligence-based Assistants and Platforms minitrack, aims to deepen, and broaden our understanding of AI-based technologies in the digital economy. Since 2021, this HICSS minitrack seeks to advance academic discourse by focusing on specific, cutting-edge topics. Compared to other minitracks on AI development, the AI-based assistants and platforms minitrack explicitly focuses on assistants from an interdisciplinary perspective. This not only comprises technological aspects, but also their holistic impact from socio-technical implications to the potential in reshaping industries and in enhancing digital business models. We encourage submissions that blend theory with practice, offering insights into real-world applications and societal impacts of these technologies. We are particularly invite submissions that delve into specific challenges of AI-assistants, such as algorithmic bias, transparency, explanations, user privacy, and their sustainable integration in healthcare, education, and other sectors.
2. Minitrack Topics
The AI-based assistants and platforms minitrack seeks contributions around the following topics, but also invites research on related topics:
- Business models and business innovation based on AI-based assistants and platforms
- Analyses of AI-based platform ecosystems (structure, ecosystem intelligence)
- Impact of AI-based assistants and platforms on economic, ecological and social aspects
- Evolution and emergence in AI-based assistant ecosystems (mechanisms, path dependencies)
- Role of advanced technologies (agents, metaverse, LLM, quantum) for AI-based assistants
- Design, implementation, and management of AI-based assistants (methods, architectures)
- Human centricity, transparency and user-orientation in AI-based assistants and platforms
- Regulation of AI-based assistants and platforms (ethics, bias mitigation, governance)
- Integration of assistants and platforms (multi-platforms and platform federation)
- Security and trust in AI-based assistants and platforms (risks, privacy, and trust issues)
- Implications of AI-based assistants on productivity and the future workplace and human-AI interaction
- Application of AI-based assistant platforms in various industries (e-health, education, engineering, finance, administration)
The AI-based assistants and platforms minitrack is methodologically open and welcomes empirical and theoretical research as well as practical and design-oriented research.
