Augmented reality (AR) is a user interface technology that combines the perception of real environments with digital, virtual information. Often this is achieved by tagging computer generated virtual information on images of the physical environment in real-time. To achieve such convincing and believable combination of the reality and the virtuality, an AR system requires a detailed and accurate model of the real scene and the virtual information. Hence, traditionally, AR application is only available on high-end desktop computer or notebook. With the rapid revolution of mobile devices in the recent years, smartphones nowadays are often equipped with dual core processors and gigabytes of memory. Furthermore, the current trend of smartphones also comes with camera enabled. Therefore, mobile AR applications on smartphone have become a popular trend in the recent years. Juniper Research and Network Technology even project that there will be around US$732 million revenue AR Market by 2014. Mobile AR apparently becomes the star of the next century. Among existing mobile AR app, the AR entertainments are the most app on the smartphone. It is strongly believed that the gaming industry will has revolutionary influence by the prosperity of mobile AR entertainments development. Hence, it is the goal of this special edition that is trying to catch this trend by reviewing current state-of-art mobile AR techniques in entertainments on both hardware and software. High quality, original contributions, inclusive of both theory and practical oriented papers, are requested. Topics of the interests include, but not limited to:
。Lightweight feature tracking techniques ;
。Indoor positioning technique by feature tracking;
。Design of hardware portable solutions for mobile AR;
。Sensing of mobile AR entertainments;
