Call For Papers

Call for Papers
The Call for Papers is open. Submissions from any scholar working on aspects of quantitative linguistics and quantitative text analysis are welcome. We encourage submissions concentrating on, but not limited to:
•Descriptions of all aspects of language and text phenomena, including psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, pragmatics, etc., as far as they use quantitative mathematical methods (probability theory, stochastic processes, differential and difference equations, fuzzy logics and set theory, function theory etc.), on all levels of linguistic analysis.
•Applications of methods, models, or findings from quantitative linguistics to problems of natural language processing, text classification, stylistics, machine translation, language teaching, documentation and information retrieval.
•Methodological problems of linguistic measurement, model construction, sampling and test theory.
•Epistemological issues such as explanation of language and text phenomena, contributions to theory construction, systems theory, philosophy of science.
Each paper will be allotted thirty minutes (20 + 10 minutes for discussion). The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2011. For submission information and abstract specifications, see Submission Information. Presentations should be in English. Data projectors, overhead projectors etc. will be provided. We particularly want to encourage young scholars to participate in this conference.

Participation Fees
The participation fee charged per attending person equals the sum of one annual fee for IQLA, differing according to participant's status: academic professionals € 100, post-docs € 50, pre-docs € 40 (to be paid in advance). Participation fees cover the abstract booklet and other conference materials, as well as refreshments and snacks during pauses throughout the whole conference, but they do not include meals, sightseeing tours or other social events.

Abstract Submission
Your abstract should be of relevance for quantitative linguistics, and it should demonstrate the paper's relevance to the conference's topic. All abstracts will be anonymously reviewed by independent reviewers; submitters will be informed about the result of the reviewing process, and they will have an opportunity to comment the reviews, if necessary. Abstracts should be in English, and they should not exceed 500 words. Abstracts are requested to be submitted in two variants, i.e. both

(a) anonymously, without any personal data, as plain text in the abstract field, and
(b) with name, affiliation(s), email and correspondence address as attached PDF file.

The abstract text itself should be identical for both variants. The Submission of Abstract is possible only via the conference tool. Both variants should be submitted electronically via the EasyChair Conference Manager:

• provide the title of the anonymized abstract in plain text,

• select the topic relevant to your paper,
• upload the abstract as PDF file with the full abstract, including title, name, email and correspondence address (do not chose "Abstract only")
The contact author of the paper will receive an auto-generated notification of receipt via email. The abstracts must be submitted no later than October 31, 2012. Notifications of the Program Committee’s decisions will be sent out by January 2012.
