**** SCOPE & TOPICS ****
This forth DEXA workshop on AI system engineering aims at a holistic view addressing the increasing need of interconnecting traditionally separated disciplines such as data analysis, model building and selection, software engineering, deployment, legal aspects, and standards. By this holistic view we encounter a variety of challenges along the AI modeling cycle and software system engineering lifecycle as outlined in the figure below such as:
- Theory-practice gap in machine learning with impact on stability, reproducibility or integrity due to limitations of nowadays theoretical foundations in statistical learning theory or lack of control of high-dimensionality effects of deep learning;
- Facing computational constraints, e.g. embedded systems, neuromorphic systems, power consumption/Green AI;
- Taking into account compliance checking aspects, e.g. ethics by design, confidentiality protection, federated learning;
- Data, model and software quality assurance and standards;
- Legal aspects such as accountability and IPR issues.

In order to encourage participation and discussion, this workshop solicits two types of submissions:
• Regular paper submissions about original work not exceeding 10 pages.
• Short paper submissions on recent or ongoing work on relevant topics and ideas not exceeding 5 pages.
Paper submission please refer to (

Papers submission will be managed using If you have used this system previously for other conferences, you can use the same username and password. If this is the first time you are using EasyChair, you will need to register for an account by clicking the "I have no EasyChair account" button. Upon completion of registration, you will get a notification email from the system and you are ready for submitting your paper. You can upload and re-upload the paper to the system by the submission due date.
Online Paper submission: (

Submissions to the workshop must not have been published or be concurrently considered for publication elsewhere.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by, at least, 3 reviewers and judged on the basis of originality, contribution to the field, technical and presentation quality, and relevance to the workshop. Short papers are meant for timely discussion and feedback at the workshop.

All accepted papers will be published by Springer in "Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS). Authors of all accepted papers must sign a Springer copyright release form. Papers are accepted with the understanding that at least one author will register for the conference to present the paper. All published papers will be indexed appropriately in all major indexes.
