ICTAI 2011 Special Session on Text and Web Mining (TWM)

Special Session Co-Chairs

Dr. Wei Jin (wei.jin@ndsu.edu), North Dakota State University , USA
Mr. Haofen Wang (whfcarter@apex.sjtu.edu.cn), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China
Mr. Peng Li (lipeng01@ict.ac.cn), Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Text mining and web mining are interrelated fields that have attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Text mining focuses on analyzing large document collections and discovering interesting patterns and links hidden in text-based data. Web mining is concerned with the analysis and mining of all web-related data including web content (in which text constitutes a large portion), hyperlink structure, and web access and usage statistics. Because of the availability of large textual information in the electronic form and an evident lack of intelligent tools and techniques to process the data, there is a need for effective and efficient methods for information extraction, ontology building, document navigation/exploration, text analysis and visualization, intelligent search, information discovery, etc.

We hope this special session provides a snapshot of some of the latest advancement in the fields of text and web mining. The broader context of this session can be related in some respect to the areas of Data Mining, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Social Networks Analysis and general Graph Theory. We invite contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in topics related to the purpose of this special session. :

Particular topics of interest include but are not limited to:

Analysis of weblogs and blogs
Semantic association identification by link analysis
Web content mining and modeling
Network or link analysis of social resources sharing systems
Opinion Mining and Sentimental Analysis
Information discovery from texts and Web
Information Extraction
Scalability of developed approaches
Visualization of text and link structures
Innovative applications

Paper Submission and Presentation

Each submission should contain original, high quality work which has not been previously submitted or published elsewhere. Papers should be submitted electronically, through the ICTAI 2011 submission system, in PDF format. All submissions should conform to the IEEE proceedings specifications (single-spaced, double-column, 10-point font size, up to 8 pages). For detailed instructions, please refer to the IEEE website.

Each accepted paper should be presented at the TWM special session of the conference by one of the authors and accompanied by at least one full registration fee payment, to guarantee publication in the proceedings. All accepted papers will be included in the Proceedings of ICTAI 2011, which will be published by the IEEE.
