Call For Papers

NATO has remained committed to its role of protector and guarantor of the freedom and security of its members and partner states through both political and military means for several decades. Although Europe was focused on the first of these pillars for some time after the end of the Cold War, Russia's breaking of international law in 2014 - an inconceivable event - has changed the perspective. Changing borders by force, occupying parts of a neighbouring country and using separatist forces against it had seemed part of a distant past but returned with a striking impact. All of this raises questions about the security of the NATO’s eastern flank. What steps should be undertaken to secure it against hostile Russian actions targeted at the region from the Baltic Sea through Central Europe to the Black Sea and the threat they pose to the Balkans and the Caucasus? What else, apart from the action already taken, can help provide security to the Baltic Region, the Eastern Flank and the Black Sea Region? What is the role of the states that make up NATO’s eastern flank in supporting Ukraine's resistance and its fight for freedom and sovereignty? We are also looking to receive papers that analyse and evaluate the U.S. and NATO’s military assistance to the above-mentioned regions, the debates in the U.S. congress related to it, U.S. Ukrainian policy oversights, and the status of the European Reassurance/Deterrence Initiative. These are only a few questions that should be considered. The Special Issue calls for contributions that encourage discussion about NATO and forecasts of future political-economic-strategic developments.
Manuscript length should be no longer than 5000 to 8000 words, including abstract, references, and tables; it should be formatted and submitted per standard policies and procedures of the
