AIM AND SCOPE:

Edge clouds are becoming an important type of computing infrastructure for collecting and processing big data as low-latency and reliable communication technologies such as 5G, and Web of Things (WoT) infrastructures are developed and deployed. Edge clouds are especially useful for efficient and secure data collection and processing for smart cities and smart factories. In edge cloud environments, it is essential to provide Web services for efficiently collecting and processing various types of big data in real-time. In addition, it is necessary to develop a framework for building big data service applications in a reliable and usable manner. The third edition of the BECS workshop aims to provide a venue in which scholars and practitioners can share their experiences and present ongoing work on providing value-added Web services for users by utilizing big data in edge cloud environments.

Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

- Web services in edge clouds
- Web of things in edge clouds
- AI in edge computing (Edge AI)
- Dependable and highly usable big data platforms
- Distributed data collection, analysis, and prediction
- Stream data processing in edge clouds
- Big knowledge graphs for distributed edge cloud environments
- Modeling and mashup of edge cloud services
- Microservice architecture for edge cloud environments
- Edge-cloud interaction and collaboration

PAPER SUBMISSION:

Authors are invited to submit full papers (maximum length of 8 pages, including all references and figures) or short/demo papers (maximum length of 6 pages, including all references and figures). Papers should be formatted according to Springer’s formatting guidelines.
All papers should be submitted through the EasyChair platform (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=becs2022).

Accepted papers will be included in the post-workshop proceedings to appear in Springer's CCIS series. A few high-quality submissions will be invited to submit an extended version of the paper to a special issue of the Journal of Web Engineering (indexed in SCIE and in Scopus).

For each accepted paper, at least one author must attend the workshop and present the paper. Registration is subject to the terms and conditions of ICWE.

AIM AND SCOPE:

The SWEET Workshop invites researchers, engineers and developers to present their works in the field of Artificial Intelligence in the Web of Everything and pervasive computing scenarios.

Papers may deal with models, methods, technologies, case studies and practical experiences. Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:

- Languages, methodologies and tools for representing and managing semantic annotations in ubiquitous and pervasive scenarios
- AI-based information storage, management, discovery, integration and exploitation in the WoT
- Reasoning and planning in pervasive and unpredictable scenarios
- Semantic-based Web of Things infrastructures, protocols, applications and services
- Semantic-enhanced Web of physical objects and devices
- Wireless semantic sensor and actor networks
- Opportunistic paradigms and algorithms for matchmaking and negotiation
- Intelligent adaptive user interaction in pervasive computing
- Decentralized, adaptive and collaborative pervasive systems
- Managing pervasive data and sensor data streams
- Efficient, scalable, distributed machine learning in wireless sensor networks and ad-hoc object networks
- Intelligent Big Data architectures and solutions for pervasive scenarios
- Methods, prototypes and tools for the integration of eXplainable AI (XAI) techniques in the WoT
- Novel argumentation techniques and technologies for the WoT
- Practical and user-oriented issues and experiences of developing AI-based pervasive systems and applications

Main research issues related to the workshop topics can be summarized referring to the following problems:

- How can we integrate the Web of Things with Semantic Web technologies and tools?
- How can we use ontologies and semantic annotations to enhance real world pervasive devices, applications and services?
- How can we exploit reasoning and planning in Web of Things scenarios?
- How can we integrate machine learning efficiently in pervasive large-scale scenarios with high volumes of data?
- What IoT technologies are able to support the Semantic Web of Everything evolution?

We solicit submission of original works (i.e., neither submitted nor accepted for publication in any other workshop, conference, or journal) of research, experience and/or vision from both researchers and practitioners. They must be written in English and formatted using the Springer LNCS proceedings format. Paper length must not exceed 12 pages.

All accepted papers will be published as part of ICWE 2023 dedicated post-workshop proceedings volume to appear in Springer's LNCS series.

OVERVIEW:

The recent advances in unraveling the secrets of human conditions and diseases have encouraged new paradigms for their diagnosis and treatment. In addition, the recent pandemics have brought increasing attention toward the genetic mechanisms of viruses and infected hosts. The information related to these phenomena is increasing at unprecedented rates, directly impacting the design and development of data management pipelines and their applications. New ways of processing and exposing data and knowledge on the Web in healthcare and life sciences environments are thus strongly needed.

The WALS workshop, at its second edition, aims at being a meeting forum for Web Engineering, Data Management, and Bioinformatics researchers working on life sciences problems, offering the opportunity to share, discuss and find new approaches to support Search, Knowledge Extraction, and Data Science on the Web, thereby achieving important results for healthcare, precision medicine, biology, genomics, and virology.

The workshop welcomes submissions of fresh investigations and demonstrations concerning conceptual, experimental, and applied studies of life sciences problems on the Web. Directions of particular interest include: 1) monitoring and adaptation of Web Engineering techniques for life sciences; 2) design and engineering of Web applications for resolving life sciences problems; 3) development of crowdsourcing and collaborative strategies for life sciences data curation, integration, and discovery.

The workshop focuses on Web Engineering as a means for facing the challenges that emerge when designing and developing applications for life sciences, focused on several branches such as healthcare, precision medicine, molecular biology, genomics, and virology. The workshop is not restricted to particular research methods, and we will consider conceptual, empirical, and applied research (including practical demonstrations). The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

PAPER SUBMISSION:

We invite submissions of high quality papers describing original and unpublished results regarding any of the workshop’s topics of interest.

Accepted papers will be included in the post-workshop proceedings to appear in Springer’s series, as per the usual tradition of the ICWE conference joint events (see last year’s ICWE 2022 Workshops).

The authors must submit manuscripts using the Springer-Verlag LNCS style for Lecture Notes in Computer Science. For style files and details, see the page https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines. The workshop will accept two types of contributions:

Full papers – maximum 12 pages including references
Short/demo papers – maximum 6 pages including references
Papers must be submitted as PDF files using EasyChair at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wals2023.

To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly peer reviewed by the Program Committee. Manuscripts not submitted in the LNCS style or having more than 12 pages will be automatically rejected. The papers need to be original and not submitted or accepted for publication in any other workshop, conference, or journal.

For each accepted paper, at least one author must attend the workshop and present the paper. Registration is subject to the terms and conditions of ICWE.
