Call For Papers

UPDATE: Some organizational changes have been underway at ASPIRE to make the conference into a regular, international event. ASPIRE 2011 is jointly hosted by ACM Chennai Chapter and the Computer Society of India (CSI) Special Interest Group on Distributed Systems (SIGDS).
=============================================

With increasing automation, the need for a systemic perspective to software development is becoming imperative. Most web applications for example, are no longer standalone units, but work as part of a larger system of applications. A simple web page generated by a web application typically is the result of the inter-operation of different independently developed applications like open-id authentication, payment gateway, advertisement, etc. All of these are independently developed components without a specific requirement of their use.

While componentization research has focused on the properties of software components themselves, there is also another perspective that needs attention. This is the "systemic" perspective to software addressing properties like efficiency, robustness, load distribution, etc. of the entire system of components working together.

The nature of web scale software systems are likely to be more complex and open-ended in comparison to analogous engineering systems like automobiles, for example. Evolution, emergence and management of uncertainty take far more prominence in software systems than in conventional engineering systems.

Given the growing prevalance of software systems, it has become imperative to address software systems as a separate subject in its own right. It is in this backdrop that the Symposium on Software Systems Practice, Research and Experience (ASPIRE 2011) is being proposed. ASPIRE 2011 is jointly hosted by the ACM India Chennai Chapter and the Computer Society of India (CSI) Special Interest Group on Distributed Systems (SIGDS).

Papers are solicited that describe novel research ideas, practices and engineering principles of software systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* Agent Models of Software Systems
* Analysis and Design Patterns
* Authentication and Authorization
* Collaboration Principles and Technologies
* Component based Software Engineering
* Conceptual Modeling
* Cybernetics and Complex Systems
* Distributed Configuration Management
* Distributed Indexing
* Distributed Search
* Distributed Knowledge Management
* Knowledge Representation
* Interoperability
* Network Analysis for Software Systems
* Network Mining and Semantics Extraction
* Process Management for Software Systems
* Service Oriented Architectures
* Software Architectures
* Software Metrics
* Systems Analysis and Design
* System Modeling Paradigms
* System Security
* Theory of Software Systems
* Workflow Design

Papers should be submitted using the online paper submission system. Papers should be no longer than 12 a4 pages, printed using 11pt fonts in a two column format. In order to enable timely dissemination of research ideas, proceedings of ASPIRE 2011 will be published for open access, as part of the Open Conferencing System (OCS), an initiative of the Public Knowledge Project started at Simon Fraser University
