CIbSE is the leading research forum on Software Engineering (SE) in Ibero-America. The primary goal of this conference is to promote high-quality scientific research in Ibero-American countries and, thus, to support the researchers in this community in publishing and discussing their work. Also, the conference fosters collaboration and scientific research among academics, students, and practitioners from the industry.
CIbSE 2023 will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, and it will include keynotes from influential researchers of the Software Engineering community and will be held in conjunction with three satellite events: a Doctoral Symposium, the 6th edition of the Advanced Ibero-American School on Software Engineering (EIbAIS), and Industry Talks. The Doctoral Symposium is organized to discuss work in progress of Ph.D. theses related to the general area of Software Engineering. EIbAIS combines lectures and tutorials on the current trends in Software Engineering by renowned speakers. The Industry Talks aim at approximating academics and practitioners from the local community to discuss state-of-the-practice Software Engineering topics.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We invite authors to submit high-quality research papers describing significant, original, and not previously published results on Software Engineering in any of the official CIbSE languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
The following paper categories are welcome.
Technical papers (not exceeding 15 pages): papers describing innovative research on the conference's topics. Papers in this submission category should describe a novel contribution to the topics and carefully support novelty claims with citations to the relevant literature.
Technical papers will be evaluated by originality, soundness, relevance, the importance of contribution, the strength of validation, quality of presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work. If a submission builds upon the previous work of the author(s), the novelty of the new contribution must be described clearly concerning the previous work. In addition, technical papers need to discuss openly how the results were validated.
Emerging Ideas papers (not exceeding 8 pages): papers describing new, non-conventional approaches that depart from standard practice on the conference topics. They are intended to describe clear research ideas early in the investigation.
Emerging ideas papers will be assessed primarily on their level of originality and potential for impact on the field regarding promoting innovative thinking. Hence, inadequacies in the state-of-the-art and the pertinence, correctness, and impact of the idea must be described precisely. While the idea described does not need to be fully validated, a presentation of preliminary results that provide initial insights into the feasibility and the impact of the idea is expected.
Any paper not in the scope of the conference, not following the formatting guidelines, or was submitted or published in any other forum (conference or journal) will be desk-rejected without review. All other submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee.
Among the technical articles presented at the conference, a set of the best articles will be selected for publication in a WoS-indexed journal. Additionally, the best paper will receive an award certificate.

Submission
All papers must be submitted through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023), using PDF format only. Submissions must be formatted according to the style of the Brazilian Computing Society for conference papers (https://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/summary/169-templates-para-artigos-e-capitulos-de-livros/878-modelosparapublicaodeartigos).
The accepted papers will be included in the proceedings made available online by the Digital Open Library of the Brazilian Computing Society - SOL (https://sol.sbc.org.br/index.php/anais) and Curran Associates (http://www.proceedings.com/) and later indexed by DBLP and Scopus.
At least one author of each accepted paper must register by the camera-ready deadline. One registration corresponds to only one paper. An author of each accepted paper must present in person, or the paper will be excluded from the proceedings. If an author has more than one accepted paper, paying 50% of the registration for the second and following co-authored papers is possible.
Journal First
Authors of papers on the topics of interest of the conference and accepted in Q1 or Q2 JCR journals are invited to present their research work at CIbSE. This opportunity allows the authors to discuss their work with the community and enrich the technical program of CIbSE. Presentations of journal-first papers will be included in CIbSE 2023 main track.
The main evaluation criterion for selecting journal-first papers is the description of original results that are not extensions of previous conference papers. In addition, the paper must have been accepted for publication in the journal no earlier than January 1st, 2022, and must not have been presented at any other conference as a journal-first contribution.
At least one author per selected journal-first paper must register and attend the conference to present it.
Authors interested in presenting journal first papers at CIbSE 2023 must submit their proposals in PDF format through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023). The following information must be provided: (i) paper title; (ii) list of authors; (iii) keywords; (iv) journal and information about its impact factor and its rank; (v) DOI; (vi) abstract, and; (vi) a short statement on how the work satisfies the criteria above.
Doctoral Symposium
The Doctoral Symposium aims at disseminating research-in-progress conducted by novice researchers. A board of experts will discuss with the researchers to suggest new perspectives and improvements to the Ph.D. theses.
The submitted research can address any of CIbSE 2023 research topics. Although it is not compulsory, we recommend that the research is at an intermediate stage (~ 2nd year) so that experts’ suggestions could be included in the Ph.D. work.
The suggested paper structure is as follows:
Introduction to the field of research and identification of the main challenges therein
Explicit formulation of the research questions and objectives justifying why they were chosen
Outline the current knowledge of the problem domain as well as the state of existing solutions
Sketch of the research methodology that is being applied
Introduction of the proposed solution and the results achieved so far
The statement in what aspects the suggested solution is different or better as compared to existing approaches
An indication of the outstanding issues and a description of the planned next steps
Provision of a list of references
Doctoral Symposium papers shall be authored by the doctoral candidate exclusively (thus, the supervisor's name should not be included). All papers must be submitted in PDF format through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023). Submissions must be written in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Moreover, the papers must not exceed eight pages and must be formatted according to the style of the Brazilian Computing Society for conference papers (https://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/summary/169-templates-para-artigos-e-capitulos-de-livros/878-modelosparapublicaodeartigos). Accepted papers will be included in the proceedings of the conference. The authors of accepted papers must register by the camera-ready deadline.
EIbAIS
The Advanced Ibero-American School on Software Engineering (EIbAIS) represents the CIbSE initiative to disseminate Software Engineering knowledge in Ibero-America. It started as a natural evolution of the CIbSE tutorials and short courses.
EIbAIS aims to promote a forum for discussions related to Software Engineering and its related technologies and theoretical foundations via the participation of practitioners, undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers. The lectures are presented by volunteers contributing to the CIbSE community and spreading Software Engineering knowledge in Ibero-America.
EIbAIS is organized into two categories of sessions: state-of-the-practice and state-of-the-art modules.
The modules regarding the state-of-the-practice offer discussions on topics of general interest and usually represent local demand. These modules support knowledge sharing and practical issues with the participants, presenting evidence-based software engineering results to the audience. Examples of state-of-practice topics include User-Centered Design, DevOps, Internet of Things, Microservices, and Software Engineering for Data Science.
The modules regarding the state-of-the-art offer discussion on topics of prospective interest and usually represent the perspectives of the Software Engineering research & innovation community. In addition, these modules intend to provide information on ongoing and next-to-coming Software Engineering technologies candidates that could represent breakthrough concepts in the field. Examples of state-of-the-art topics include the same topics of interest at the conference.
All participants participating in sessions will get a certificate of participation indicating the modules, lecturers, and contents.
Industry Talks
The Industry Talks aim at providing the industry and practitioners with the means to present and discuss their current work addressing real-world applications of Software Engineering. Talk exploring best practices, problems and solutions, emerging challenges in the industry, and other Software Engineering-related topics are welcomed. Practitioners and researchers are invited to work together to explore how Software Engineering processes, methods, techniques, and tools can provide the industry with better solutions.
