Call For Papers

OGEL invites submissions for a Special Issue focusing on 'Offshore Energy Investments and Activities'. The editors for this issue are Associate Professor Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui, University of Bergen, and Professor James W. Coleman, SMU Dedman School of Law.

Over the last decades, the energy world has been increasingly going offshore. Offshore oil and gas operations are already common, with significant investment and exploration and production activities taking place in the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Brazil, and elsewhere. Integrated natural gas projects, E&P, liquefaction, LNG transportation and regasification are done fully offshore. Increasing attention is focusing on offshore hydrocarbons decommissioning.

However, the energy transition has also put offshore energy on the table. Offshore production of renewable energy, including wind and solar energy is taking place in territorial waters and exclusive economic zones of coastal states. Expansion is expected. At the same time, conflicts related to renewable offshore energy and their impact will arise.

As offshore areas are becoming an integral part of energy value chains further study of their particular challenges is needed.

This OGEL Special Issue seeks to provide information relating to current developments and past experiences in offshore energy activities. We encourage submission of relevant papers, studies, and brief comments on various aspects of this subject. These may relate to regulatory details or larger policy level questions. Comparative law or interdisciplinary approaches to the topic are also welcomed.
