Handbook of Artificial Intelligence for Smart City Development: Management, Systems, and Technology Challenges

Published by: CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

Scope of Book

Smart City is an urban area that uses smart devices to improve human lifestyle, safer communities, efficient public utilities and effective engagement of citizens and government. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and development of Smart Cities go hand in hand. Using the power of AI, smart city systems can create municipal systems and services that not only operate more efficiently but also provide significant benefits to workers and visitors. According to one of the reports by UNESCO on “Smart Cities: Shaping the society of 2030”, the 2030 children will live in a globalized lifestyle and smart cities are the steppingstones towards their quality of life and sustainable development.

Keeping all this in mind, the proposed book explores the smart cities of the future, understanding more about their development and to understand why and how the humankind will benefit from them. The book is divided into 3 sections. First section talks about the ‘Foundations of Smart Cities’ where some of the basic needs required in planning and development of smart cities are discussed. Smart data Management and role of AI, installation of Distributed Antenna Systems(DAS),facilitating IoT connectivity, security and privacy concerns, needs for modular infrastructure etc are some of the topics of foundation section. The next section discusses about applications of Artificial Intelligence in Smart Cities that include AI in supply of energy and water, waste recycling , storm water re-use ,sanitation and solid waste management, pedestrian friendly pathways, intelligent traffic management systems, smart parking, energy efficient street lightning, smart healthcare systems and public safety etc. The last section is devoted to the sustainable strategies & challenges in Smart Cities such as Artificial Intelligence for smart renewable energy, sustainable smart urban buildings, blockchain for smart sustainable cities, sustainable and resilient smart water and seepage systems , greenhouse gas emissions , air quality, water conservation and the challenges posed by rising urbanization.

The book will appeal to postgraduates, researchers, academicians from across many disciplines. The book will also be a good companion to consultants, government agencies and policy makers.
