Call For Papers

Dear Colleagues,

Current advances in technology have changed the way people interact with their living spaces. These advances have allowed physical learning spaces to be augmented with different technology towards the idea of smart classrooms and intelligent campuses. However, one of the challenges of using technology in educational settings is how to seamlessly integrate it to create effective learning experiences, foster participation, collaboration, creativity and engagement. Intelligent Environments (IE) are spaces in which a myriad of technologies is used to enhance human activities via gesture, voice, movement, context and other multi-modal approaches, becoming so seamlessly integrated that they become invisible to the users. To achieve this goal with a focus on educational spaces, a wealth of knowledge that spans many topics, including ubiquitous computing, artificial intelligence, the learning sciences, immersive technologies, human-computer interactions, among others is needed.

This Special Issue aims to showcase research papers, reviews of research studies and technical reports about innovative research on intelligent educational environments, uncovering and discussing emerging trends and technologies, sound research and best practices, successful products and services bringing together an international and interdisciplinary community of scholars, practitioners, policymakers and anyone interested in the future of intelligent educational spaces and opportunities for integration and research.

This includes (but not limits its focus to) smart campus and classrooms, immersive intelligent environments and multidimensional spaces, wearable technology, virtual, augmented and mixed reality for education, context-aware computing in educational settings, intelligent assessment and learning analytics in high-tech environments, multi-modal learning environments, virtual labs, adaptive recommender learning technology, intelligent tutoring systems, collaboration and social computing in education, non-leisure games and gamification.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Education Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
