SDM 2022 : 9th International Conference on Sustainable Design and Manufacturing
Call For Papers
Part of KES duel themed conference Smart Sustainable Technologies which groups SDM 22 and SEB 22 at one venue. This conference is being planned as a hybrid event due to the effects of COVID-19. Delegates unable to travel due to the pandemic will be invited to present papers virtually via the KES Online platform.
SDM-2022 will consist of keynote talks, oral presentations, invited sessions and workshops. It will cover the theory and applications of sustainable design and manufacturing, and related areas, whilst providing an excellent platform for the presentation and discussion of new data and concepts, leading to knowledge exchange and the generation of new ideas.
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer as book chapters in a volume of the KES Smart Innovation Systems and Technologies series, submitted for indexing in Scopus and Thomson-Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and the Web of Science.
The conference encompasses a broad spectrum of sustainable design and manufacturing related subjects. The following list provides examples of applicable topics; however, the list is not meant to exclude other applicable areas.
Generic Topics of Interest
Sustainable Design, Innovation and Services
Ecodesign and eco-innovation; closed-loop design; design for environment; design for social sustainability; sustainable innovation; DfX (for lifecycle) - manufacturing, assembly, testing, use, recycling, etc; sustainable product and service modelling; design thinking for sustainability; design innovation for sustainable city, transportation, water and food security.
Sustainable Manufacturing Processes and Technology
Environmentally conscious manufacturing processes; energy and resource efficiency and effectiveness in advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., RP/additive/layered manufacturing, micro and nanomachining, laser-based manufacturing); sustainable manufacturing processes; re-manufacturing processes and techniques; technology for waste recovery.
Sustainable Manufacturing Systems and Enterprises
Product life cycle management; end-of-life strategies; energy management and efficiency improvement for production systems; predictive maintenance and service for sustainable manufacturing; sustainable supply chains and green logistics; sustainable business models; green factory; societal impact of manufacturing systems; policy aspects of sustainable manufacturing.
Decision Support for Sustainability
Life cycle assessment and costing; intelligent decision support methods and tools for sustainable manufacturing; value mapping and assessment for sustainable manufacturing and society; diagnosis and prognostics; virtual and collaborative environment for sustainability; user behaviour models for sustainability; system thinking for sustainability.
Call for invited sessions
An invited session consists of a presentation session of 6 to 12 or more papers on a specific conference topic, organised as half or full day mini-conference. We invite senior scientists who have a special interest in a specific conference topic to take responsibility for an invited session, gathering papers from a range of research expertise around the world. Researchers who would like to organise one or more Invited Sessions on topics falling within the scope of the conference are invited to submit a proposal for consideration.
Submission Guidelines and Review Process
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished papers which are not under review for another conference, workshop, or journal by the time of submission. The contributors should address one or more research areas included above.
Detailed submission information is available on the conference page: http://sdm-21.kesinternational.org/submission.php
Submitted papers will undergo double-blind peer review by at least two members of the program committee. Prior to submission, please ensure that you have removed any information from your paper which could identify the authors. Paper acceptance is based on the following criteria: novelty, technical soundness, practical or theoretical impact, clarity, and presentation. At least one author per paper submission is required to register for the conference, and to present the paper.
