Call For Papers

Self-Aware and Adaptive Embedded Systems (SAAES)

Special session in International Conference on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems (PECCS 2011), Algarve, Portugal, 5 - 7 March, 2011, http://www.peccs.org/

The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC, DBLP and EI, and will be available in SciTePress Digital Library.
A number of papers from this special session will be invited for submission to a special issue of International Journal of Embedded and Real-Time Communication Systems (IJERTCS, www.igiglobal.com/ijertcs).
Both regular papers and positional papers (with highly innovative and well-explained ideas but not yet complete implementation) are encouraged for submission.

Session Chairs
Prof. Jouni Isoaho, University of Turku, Finland
Adj. Prof. Juha Plosila, Academy Research Fellow, University of Turku, Finland

Overview
Self-aware and adaptive (SAA) systems are capable of monitoring their own states and the surrounding environment, and adapt themselves to different scenarios and requirements. The concept of self-awareness and adaptivity belongs to the wide scope of autonomic computing, while focusing on the aspects of awareness and adaptation. SAA features become essential in the emerging and future embedded system, as the number of components and their heterogeneity increase significantly, for both single-chip parallel processing and physically distributed processing. While existing works propose various superior features for adaptive systems, practical and efficient solutions to achieve SAA systems still call for wider and more dedicated efforts, including discussion on SAA theory and modeling, scalable design approaches and framework, design techniques and practical implementation for low-power/energy, high dependability and security, etc.. The SAAES special session addresses these important and challenging topics.

Papers in the following and related areas are solicited:
*Theory, specification, modeling, implementation and testing of SAA systems
*Self-aware and adaptive operations for energy efficiency, dependability and security
*Wireless sensor networks with self-aware and adaptive features
*Case studies for smart houses, intelligent automotive or other industrial scenarios
*Self-aware and adaptive cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the embedded system context
