2021 GULF-SOUTH SUMMIT
March, 15-18, 2021 - Virtual Format "Building (and Rebuilding) Healthier Communities" The mission of the Gulf-South Summit on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement through Higher Education is to promote networking among practitioners, research, ethical practices, reciprocal campus-community partnerships, sustainable programs, and a culture of engagement and public awareness through service-learning and other forms of civic engagement. At the 2021 Gulf-South Summit, help us explore the role of service-learning and civic engagement in “Building (and Rebuilding) Healthy and Inclusive Communities.” In 2020, we welcomed proposals on community-university partnerships that foster the growth of healthy and equitable environments in the communities where we live, work, and serve. Since our last RFP, much has occurred, and our nation has seen exponential growth in political/social activism and governmental response, all against the backdrop of an unprecedented global pandemic. For the 2021 Virtual Gulf South Summit, we will reinvite our 2020 presenters and invite new proposals that address how we can REbuild healthy and inclusive communities across a variety of contexts: dialogue and deliberation as democratic practices, restorative justice initiatives, equitable access to quality education, innovation through social entrepreneurship, best practices in student leadership for civic engagement, and the latest in community-engaged scholarship. The proposal submission form will ask presenters to indicate what format is ideal for their presentation, the level of the intended audience (Introductory, Experienced, Both) and which intended audience(s) the presentation addresses: faculty/practitioners, administrators, community partner agencies, students, or all audiences. Proposals will be scored based on relevance to conference theme, quality of writing, originality, transferability, and alignment with best practices. Presenters whose proposals were accepted for the 2020 Gulf-South Summit that was canceled due to COVID-19 are eligible to share their presentation at the 2021 Gulf-South Summit in the same format it was accepted for the 2020 Gulf-South Summit. Those wishing to do that, please see the Proposal Re-submission Instructions. Proposals resubmitted in a different format, or with significant changes from the 2020 proposal will be re-adjudicated for the 2021 Gulf-South Summit. Submission Deadline: November 13, 2020 Click Here to Submit a Proposal Presentations will be in the following formats (please note dates): Interactive Workshop An interactive workshop is a 1 hour Zoom session and should engage participants in activities that offer insight, practice, or instruction relevant to the topics discussed in the workshop. Interactive Workshops will be scheduled in the afternoons Monday, March 15 through Thursday, March 18. Panel Discussion A panel discussion is a 1 hour Zoom session, including time for Q&A with co-panelists assembled by a primary presenter. A panel discussion should involve 3 or more individuals offering various perspectives on one topic. Panelists from different organizations and/or institutions are encouraged. Panel Discussions will be scheduled in the afternoons Monday, March 15 through Thursday, March 18. Individual Presentation An individual presentation is a 1 hour Zoom session, including time for Q&A, where presenters may share information on a topic of their choice.
