Call For Papers

Scope of the Conference. PLDI is a forum where researchers, developers, educators, and practitioners can exchange information on the latest practical and experimental work in the design and implementation of programming languages. The PLDI conference seeks original research papers that focus on practical issues in the design, development, implementation and use of programming languages. Emphasis is placed on novel language designs, innovative and creative approaches to compile-time and run-time technology, and results from experimental studies of actual implementations.

Topics of Interest. Papers are solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics as they relate to the design, development, implementation and use of programming languages:

* Bug detection and debugging
* Parallelizing compilers
* Code generation
* Programming language concepts and language design
* Compiler/architecture interaction
* Program representations and compiler construction
* Compiler analysis and optimizations
* Performance analysis, evaluation and tools
* Domain-specific languages and tools
* Pointer analysis
* Dynamic and adaptive compilation
* Reliability
* ILP/DLP/TLP and other types of parallelism
* Security
* Memory hierarchy optimization
* Type systems and program logics
* Memory management
* Verification
* Novel programming models

Submission. Prospective authors must submit papers electronically via the conference web site . Submissions may not exceed 10 pages formatted according to the ACM proceedings format. These 10 pages include everything (i.e., it is the total length of the paper). The program chair will reject papers that exceed the length requirement or are submitted late. Templates for ACM format are available for Word Perfect, Microsoft Word, and Latex at http://www.acm.org/sigs/sigplan/authorInformation.htm. Submissions should be in PDF, printable on US Letter and A4 sized paper, and readable without magnification.

Paper submission is double-blind to reduce the reviewers bias against authors or institutions. Thus, the submissions cannot include author names or institutions. Common sense and careful writing should be used to preserve anonymity without detracting from the submission. We recognize that, closely building on your own prior work may indirectly reveal your identity. However, if you believe that any information left out for anonymity may hinder reviewing, such as a citation to the authors thesis, please provide that information to the PC chair separately. Note that the identity of the authors will be revealed to the reviewers once the review is submitted.

Papers must describe unpublished work that is not currently submitted for publication elsewhere (including journals and formal proceedings of conferences and workshops). See the SIGPLAN republication policy for more details http://www.acm.org/sigs/sigplan/republicationpolicy.htm. The single exception to this rule is ISMM. Due to the tight scheduling constraints, the authors are allowed to resubmit a PLDI submission to ISMM with the clear understanding that the paper will be withdrawn from ISMM if it is accepted to PLDI. The authors need to indicate to the ISMM PC char if the paper is a concurrent submission.

Evaluation. The program committee will evaluate the technical contribution of each submission as well as its general accessibility to the PLDI audience. Papers will be judged on significance, originality, relevance, correctness, and clarity. The paper must be organized so that it is easily understood by audience with varied expertise. The paper should clearly identify what has been accomplished, why it is significant, and how it compares with previous work.

Presentation. We plan to make the videos and slides of the conference presentations available to the public. Thus, the presenter needs to agree to the public release of the presentation.

Important Dates.

* Abstract deadline: Monday, November 12, 2007, 9:00 pm EST.
* Paper deadline: Thursday, November 15, 2007, 9:00 pm EST.
* In keeping with the convention established in the last few years, the deadline is firm and no extensions will be given. Rebuttal Period: Wednesday to Friday, January 16-18, 2008
* Notification: Wednesday, February 8, 2008
