(The 7th International Workshop on Systems Management Techniques, Processes, and Services)
- special focus on "Cloud Computing"- May 16, 2011 @ Anchorage, Alaska, USA (in conjunction with IPDPS 2011) http://www.ece.rutgers.edu/~smtps *** Extended submission deadline: January 7, 2011 *** In our 7th year of SMTPS, we would like to invite the pioneers in computing, resource and system management, and discuss the latest ideas, with a special focus on “cloud computing”. With the advent of virtualization technologies, efficient and effective systems management plays an even more critical role to fully exploit the resulting simplification and to contain the complexity introduced by virtual resources. The cloud computing paradigm has been introduced to respond to dynamic computation demands by emerging applications, and to improve utilization of computing resources and energy in aggregation to serve a large group of users. Many issues in systems management within a traditional computing environment remain challenging for cloud computing. For instance, system administrators for both traditional and cloud systems are required to provide satisfactory and continuous services to applications even in the presence of interrupts and system failures. On the other hand, there are new challenges and opportunities posed by cloud computing, which call for different solutions. For example, management of computing infrastructure, platform and software as service offerings and in the possible forms of private, public and hybrid cloud datacenter with thousands of servers, a wide variety of middleware brings in challenges for tomorrow's systems. This workshop is intended to bring together researchers and practitioners to define and discuss the issues and challenges and share early findings in systems management in the emerging cloud computing paradigm. Topics of interest include, and are not limited to: -- Scalable resource and system management solutions -- Lifecycle management of virtualized resources (e.g. virtual server, virtual network adapters, software appliances) -- Cloud computing resource management with QoS -- High availability with failure detection, prediction, and recovery -- Identity, metering, and privacy in cloud computing -- Workload and resource scheduling -- Network delivery of IT services -- Mobile cloud computing -- Streaming in cloud computing -- Cloud services for HPC and enterprise applications Results of both theoretical and practical significance are welcome. Accepted papers will be published in the IPDPS'11 proceedings. ** An IBM sponsored Best Paper award would be given to an outstanding paper presented at the workshop. Important Dates: Paper submission deadline ** extended to Jan 7, 2011 from Dec 20, 2010 Notification of acceptance ** changed to Jan 25, 2011 from Jan 18 2011 Camera-ready paper due Feb 21, 2011 Workshop General Chair: Kyung D.
