Special Issue on Cloud Computing Internet of Things Architectures

https://escripts.eai.eu/publication/286

Submission deadline 30 June 2020

The Internet of Things (IoT) includes items such as physical devices, cars, buildings with embedded hardware, applications, sensors, and network connectivity to store, send and receive data. The current IoT environment relies on a centralised (client/server) model. The connection, authentication and data processing of the devices are managed using cloud servers. This requires high processing power and storage capacity, even if devices happen to only be a few feet apart. However, for many applications, the low response latency for IoT services exists at the cost of computing complexity which is beyond the capabilities of IoT devices. To overcome this issue, mobile transparent computing, cloud computing and edge computing techniques are being developed. In the IoT, devices exchange data using cloud for scalable computation. Cloud computing has appeared as a paradigm for storage and analytics for IoT applications. Cloud computing and IoT can therefore enable many sensing services and processing of sensing data streams beyond the capability of individual Internet of Things, thus stimulating innovations in both fields. New algorithms for data fusion and machine learning techniques can be deployed to run either on centralised or distributed technologies, thereby facilitating self-decision making in IoT applications. The purpose of this Special Issue is to capture cloud computing and IoT trends which add value to applications. The Special Issue solicits original research, reviews and case studies on all topics related to the combination of cloud computing and IoT.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Cloud computing and IoT
- Cloud frameworks for IoT
- Standardisation activities for IoT architectures
- Applications for IoT supported by cloud computing
- Block-chain for cloud computing and IoT
- Cloud architectures and models for IoT
- Mobile transparent and cloud computing in IoT
- Convergence of energy harvesting and cloud computing in IoT
- Security, privacy, integrity, and trust in IoT cloud computing
- Hardware design and prototyping in IoT
- Distributed monitoring, control and optimisation in IoT
- Data driven modelling and analysis of IoT
- Sensing and wireless technologies in IoT
- Stability and optimal control of IoT
- Testing and simulation platforms for cloud computing in IoT
- Massive IoT

Requirements for publishing in EAI Endorsed Transactions

- Smart submit: Work-in-progress submitted as an abstract by which feedback, mentorship and co-authors can be obtained for a period of 90 days. This is an optional collaboration tool that might be considered prior to the submission of full papers. More information can be found here.
- Research articles: Articles (4000-8000 words) that report original research and which present objective, questions, methods, results, discussions, and conclusions.
- Review article: In-depth review articles (4000-8000 words) of topics that build upon comprehensive references to the published literature. These articles are meant to offer relevant concepts, frameworks, theoretical proposals and limitations in the topic covered.
- Editorial: These are written by the editor(s) or invited researchers (1000-2000 words) to discuss broader issues related to the articles published in the issue, the journal or certain topics relevant to the journal.

- The articles must be written using the EAI Endorsed Transactions template.
- Researchers should adhere to publication requirements that submitted work is original, is not plagiarized, and has not been published elsewhere.
- The abstract must be structured according to PubMed's format. The abstract should be between 200 and 1000 characters long. Please minimize the use of abbreviations and do not cite references in the abstract.
- Three to eight keywords should be included which represent the main content of the article.
- Please ensure that the reference style is followed precisely; if the references are not in the correct style, they may need to be retyped and carefully proofread.
- The articles have to be written in formal English, 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'.
- Only articles and abstracts that have been published or are in press or are available through public e-print/preprint servers, may be cited.
- All references mentioned in the Reference List must be cited in the text, and vice versa.
- Figures and tables need to be in readable quality.
- Permission should be obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet).
- The paper must be submitted through the eScripts system.
