Call For Papers

AIMS AND SCOPE

In the last few years, we have witnessed an exponentially growing amount of social media data from social networks, mainly driven by the huge popularity of Web and the rapid advances of multimedia and Internet technologies. Different from conventional data types, social media data are multi-model in nature, including content such as images, audio, and videos, concept such as discussion topic, tag, and annotation, and context such as links, profile, timestamp, and click-through. All these content, concept and context are essential data sources for mining semantics, user intents, trends, knowledge, etc., from social media data, as well as enabling intelligent applications on social media services.

In particular, geo-location and mobile technologies recently have started to enable users to share life experience and build social life with each other using media content with geographic, time and/or other context. Location data have gained greater importance in many applications. Social media are becoming part of our online and mobile experience, and fostering novel applications, from information sharing, resource finding, to social communication and entertainment. Clearly, social media research is multidisciplinary and goes beyond computer science.
This rich media type has raised many new research challenges, ranging from large-scale social media content indexing and management, social media content analysis and mining, concept discovery and monitoring, social media search, context-based services, to exciting new opportunities (e.g., integration with location data, mobile social networking, online video summarization and visualization, etc). The aim of this special issue is to bring out state-of-the-art research in this area and discover directions for future research.
TOPICS OF INTERESTS

The special issue will serve as a forum for recent advances in the field of social media analysis, indexing, mining, search, and emerging new applications such as mobile media systems, geo media services, etc, especially those that are based on integrating the information from the "3C" (Content, Concept and Context). We invite original and high quality submissions addressing all aspects of this field, which is closely related to Web search, social networking analysis, multimedia retrieval, data mining, database management, location-based services, etc.
