ARS AETERNA: Call for papers
American Values in Transatlantic Perspective

Ars Aeterna is a double-blind, peer-reviewed international scientific journal issued twice a year by the Department of English and American Studies, Faculty of Arts, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia. As of 2014, the journal is published by De Gruyter Open.
Ars Aeterna is seeking original, previously unpublished papers to be included in the June 2017 issue of the journal. Submitted papers should be investigating various aspects of American values, such as the sensitivity to differences, otherness, freedom of speech, and the ability to tolerate the incommensurable. They should focus on the examination of historical situations, religion, culture and art, social enterprise and economic standing to look for the answers to the following questions:
What are core American values?
Are there values shared by all Americans?
Have they changed or evolved in the course of the history of the United States?
Are there any representative examples in art, culture, or sports that may be understood as embodiments or particular American values for certain historical time?
Did American economic history and social organization in the past fuel the recognition of progress and advancement as a core American value?
How are American values viewed in transatlantic perspective? Is it possible to speak about a clash of values? Do Europeans encounter the United States through a culture shock?
We welcome submissions reflecting the abovementioned issues in literature, film, visual art and cultural studies. All articles must be written in English and should not exceed 12 pages.
