Track description

Due to the high demand of communication everywhere and anytime in the cities and the lack of communication infrastructures in remote regions, in disasters scenarios and deep space scenarios, Device-to-Device (D2D) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication have gained special attention from both academia and industry in the past years. D2D and M2M communication can be defined as direct communication between two or more mobile users in range for direct communication. D2D networks can improve connectivity in dense cellular networks by increasing the spectral efficiency, enabling multi-hop relays, content dissemination, and, as such, offloading data from the cellular network.

This special session attempts to join researchers from both academia and industry focusing on theoretical and practical research contributions. These contributions can be new techniques, analyses, and applied contributions reporting on experiences and experiments attempting networking deployment in challenging scenarios.

Topics

We solicit manuscripts that present original and previously unpublished work on topics within this domain, but are not limited to:

- Communication in remote regions

- Opportunistic medium access;
- Spectrum management;
- Resource optimization;
- Energy minimization;
- Interference management;
- Coding and decoding methods;
- M2M communications;
