The goal of this workshop is

* to build bridge between data mining and statistics, to combine
expertise on efficient algorithms to knowledge on statistically sound
methods
* to offer a place for networking among data miners,
machine learners, statisticians and people who apply these methods in
their work
* to review the current state of affairs, specify important open problems,
share solutions and brainstorm new ideas

You can contribute to the workshop by

* submitting a paper and giving a presentation in the workshop
(the paper can be an insightful position paper or describe work-in-progress;
see instructions on https://sites.google.com/site/whamalaipages/ssdm2016)
* suggesting good problems to be worked together
* participating group works where these problems are worked together
* coming to discuss and meet new people who may be just missing your expertise
