Call For Papers

Social media is being adopted and applied in almost every area of human activity, be it for personal applications, in education, for commercial applications or in the public sector. The rapid uptake of social media is related to many factors including its ease of use and adaptability to different devices.

The fact that social media permeates our daily activities, facilitating, and perhaps improving the way we work, communicate, collaborate, do research, interact, share and create knowledge, it also poses some challenges and problems that need to be addressed and discussed. Taking this into consideration, the 2nd European Conference on Social Media (ECSM 2015) seeks to establish a home for researchers and practitioners with a wide range of approaches to engaging with the impact, use and potential of social media across disciplines. If the defining characteristic of social media is that users create, share and respond to each others information, then the European Conference on Social Media will offer a showcase for state of the art examples.

To achieve this goal, we are inviting researchers to present their findings and new ideas, and practitioners to demonstrate examples from which we can learn. The second European Conference on Social Media - ECSM 2015 will take place in Porto, Portugal, a city with a highly developed commercial, artistic and academic engagement. And the city was voted the European Best Destination in 2014.

The conference committee welcomes contributions on a wide array of topics using a range of scholarly approaches including theoretical and empirical papers employing qualitative, quantitative and critical methods.

Case studies and work-in-progress/posters are welcomed approaches. PhD Research, proposals for round table discussions, non-academic contributions and demonstrations based on the main themes are also invited.

The nature of social media encourages the committee to also invite innovative submissions that may allow the use of social media tools and approaches to the contributions, so do not feel shy of suggesting ways that the conference may benefit from the very phenomena we seek to explore together.

A broad range of themes is proposed, to include the use and analysis of social media in areas relating to business, education and the analysis of society.
