Conservative estimates show that the wearable electronics market will represent more than US$2 billion in revenue worldwide by 2018. This technology's high potential is such that both big, established players and small startups are actively involved in developing new devices, applications, and protocols for the wearable electronics market. Likewise, several other stakeholders, including users, mobile application and hardware developers, network operators, content providers, and regulatory authorities are interested in better understanding and leveraging the capabilities of wearable devices.

This special issue seeks contributions regarding the interdisciplinary design of efficient protocols and technologies to help implement and provide an advanced wearable Internet. We invite submissions from a broad range of computing areas in the context of wearable environments, including

wearable systems design;
network-connected wearable devices, displays, and augmented reality systems;
wearable sensor networks;
outdoor and home-based wearables;
wearable sensors and wearables as medical devices;
garment-integrated and textile technologies;
performance measurement studies and experimentation with wearable devices;
privacy-enhancing technologies for wearable devices;
security and privacy issues in wearable applications, services, and network systems;
security solutions for wearable technology, authentication, data access, and storage;
personal and body-area networks;
pervasive wireless systems interconnected to wearable devices;
innovative applications in the wearable environment; and
use case studies and prototypes.
Submission Guidelines
All submissions must be original manuscripts of fewer than 5,000 words, focused on Internet technologies and implementations. All manuscripts are subject to peer review on both technical merit and relevance to IC's international readership — primarily practicing engineers and academics who are looking for material that introduces new technology and broadens familiarity with current topics. We do not accept white papers, and we discourage strictly theoretical or mathematical papers. To submit a manuscript, please log on to ScholarOne (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com:443/ic-cs) to create or access an account, which you can use to log on to IC's Author Center and upload your submission.
