Symposium Objective: When we think about one single thing that has caused maximum social impact, the "mobile phone" comes to our mind. Mobile phones and other similar systems are essentially embedded systems designed using system-on-chip (SoC) technology. This system consists of several heterogeneous components, such as: (1) analog/mixed signal circuits including radio frequency (RF) components, (2) digital circuits, (3) power management systems, including the battery, and (4) software. The objective of the International Symposium on Electronic System Design (ISED) is to bring experts from these fields together so that efficient design of such portable systems is made possible. The next issue that arises, is how to train the next generation of engineers to acquire the needed expertise. Thus, in conjunction with ISED, the Workshop for Engineering Scholars (WES) will be organized. The 3rd component of the event is the Expo on Electronic Systems (EES) where different industries come together to highlight the latest developments in the field. All accepted papers after double-blind peer-review will be published by press provided at least one author is registrated for the symposium at full rate.
Symposium Tracks: Overall the event, International Symposium on Electronic System Design (ISED), will have the following tracks: (1) Analog/Mixed-Signal System Design -- Research addressing Analog/Mixed-Signal (including Radio Frequency or RF) designs needed for mobile and communications applications will be considered. (2) Digital System Design -- Battery driven portable applications operated from battery sources, present major power leakage issues when the system is fabricated using nanoscale CMOS technology. Research addressing energy-efficient digital design, emphasizing leakage power will be considered. (3) Embedded System Design -- Typical consumer applications are designed as an embedded, system potentially using hardware and software together for design tradeoffs. This track will address such research. (4) Power Management System Design -- Portable applications heavily rely on batteries as the main source of energy. However, battery technology has been a major bottleneck for portable electronics as the electrochemical conversion efficiency is low. This track will focus on research which addresses the design of batteries, as well as hardware and software for their management to improve efficiency. (5) CAD for Embedded System Design -- Current design practices for embedded systems rely on a large variety of heterogeneous algorithms, frameworks, design styles and languages and vendor tools. New designs typically fail to reach the market on time because of the inability of these ad hoc approaches to produce robust, verifiable designs. This track will address research on new and existing design languages and methodologies, specifically targeted towards analog/mixed-signal/RF/digital embedded systems. (6) Software System Design -- This track will focus on energy-efficient software that can execute with minimal resource usage. This is particularly important for portable applications as well as new applications for portable devices, e.g. mobile phones. (7) Emerging Technology and Emerging System Design -- The topics of this track is the use of nanoelectronics and general nanotechnology for efficient electronic system design. This track will include not only emerging computing paradigms but also emerging application areas such as green technology, social computing and communications. (8) Workshop for Engineering Scholars (WES) -- This will focus on educational research and general education materials for guiding students in their future career, to enhance their employability, to motivate students to higher studies, and to advise young faculty for new research and career advancement. The disciplines (or programs) of electrical sciences, including computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, communication engineering are the targets. (9) Expo on Electronic Systems (EES) -- This will bring together industry and institutes involved in research and development of tools and products for electronic systems. SUBMISSION INFORMATION A manuscript should be submitted as a single pdf file using the following link: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ised2010 Symposium Awards: There are three awards in the symposium: (1) Best paper award (2) Best WES presentation award (3) Best EES award |
