Long and short research papers
We invite submissions of high-quality original research papers that explore the intersections of Advanced Visual Interfaces and Human-Computer Interaction in general. We are particularly interested in work addressing creativity from multiple critical perspectives, including agency, interfaces, and ethics, in relation to the themes and topics of AVI 2026. Both long and short submissions must describe original, unpublished research. All papers will undergo rigorous peer review by a distinguished international panel of experts. Long Papers Chairs avi2026long@easychair.org Maria Paloma Diaz Perez, Carlos III University, Madrid Alessandra Melonio, Ca' Foscari University of Venice Short Papers Chairs avi2026short@easychair.org Luigi De Russis, Polytechnic of Turin, Italy María Menéndez Blanco, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy Important dates Long and Short Papers (all deadlines are 23:59, AoE): abstract submission: January 18, 2026 paper submission: January 25, 2026 notification: March 2, 2026 Submission Long and short papers must be anonymized, removing information (such as authorship, acknowledgments, name of an application, software, or project) that can suggest the authors' identity. Citation to authors' previous work should not be anonymous and should be in third person in the text, e.g., "As described by [10]" and not "As described in our previous work [10]". All paper submissions must be prepared in English, and authors are required to use the ACM single-column submission template and the Easy Chair system for all submissions. Page limits are as follows: Long Papers: a maximum of 8 pages (*) for long papers, + 1 page for references Short Papers: a maximum of 4 pages (*) for short papers, + 1 page for references (*) page limit is in terms of double column format. For each accepted paper, at least one author must register to AVI 2026 by the early registration deadline and present the paper at the conference. Desk reject The Paper Chairs may desk reject any submission that they believe has little chance of being accepted if it goes through the peer review process, for the following reasons: submissions that fail to meet the requirements outlined in the call (e.g., lack of anonymization, incorrect template, or non-English); incomplete submissions or working drafts of submissions; submissions that show poor scholarly standards, such as extensive typographical errors, missing or incomplete references; submissions that violate the ACM policy on LLM usage; submissions that are flagged for plagiarism according to the ACM policy; submissions that fail to declare closely related concurrent submissions; any concurrent submission under review elsewhere must be disclosed on Easy Chair with sufficient details to clarify how the AVI 2026 submission differs; submissions that are clearly out of scope for AVI 2026 (see AVI 2026 theme and topics), e.g., technical contributions with no consideration for the interaction between people and systems; submissions that are insufficiently contextualized in wider HCI literature. Authors of desk-rejected papers will be notified before the review process concludes. Submission template and system ACM single-column submission templates are available for both Word and LaTeX. It is recommended to use LaTeX. LaTeX template (recommended) LaTeX is a document preparation system and markup language widely used for creating professional/quality documents.
