The Internet of Things provides a promising vision of the future world where the virtual world of information technology integrates seamlessly with the real world of things. It is regarded as an ideal platform for people, as well as smart things, to communicate easily with each other not only in business and industries but also in our daily scenarios. Automation and intelligentialization are the primary characteristics of this promising environment where knowledge and information play key roles. The knowledge bases in the Internet of Things can acquire knowledge from domain experts as well as knowledge mining tools, which can retrieve new rules and models from massive information generated from people and things in future context of the Internet of Things. The models of knowledge management, knowledge refinement, and knowledge sharing are the keys to make the systems efficiently and effectively.
This special issue of Automatika aims to explore Knowledge Acquisition and Knowledge Management in the Internet of Things. It intends to investigate the data models required, information processing, knowledge representation, knowledge acquisition, knowledge management, and knowledge mining techniques to analyze interactions across spaces can be facilitated leveraging the best practices developed in social computing, social and community intelligence, ubiquitous computing, wireless sensor networks and service oriented computing.
This issue is in collaboration with two international workshops: KAMIoT2012 in Liverpool UK and IIKI2012 in Wuxi China. We encourage researchers from both industry and academia to submit original results of their works. Broad understanding of possible approaches to solving knowledge issues in the Internet of Things would be also encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Identification technologies
- Technologies of data management and integration
- Business processing and business models
- Integration of heterogeneous information
- Management information systems
- Knowledge retrieving and sharing mechanisms
- Enterprise knowledge management
- Reasoning algorithms for the knowledge systems
- Semantic interoperability
- Privacy protection and security issues
- Service oriented computing
- Intelligent applications
- Data Mining
- Context Awareness
