Call For Papers

TOPICS

Embedded systems developers are confronted with a large variety of challenges. Among these are novel requirements like the integration of applications or oper- ating systems on a single platform, the isolation of hardware and software components to restrict error propagation, improve fault-tolerance, and to provide protection against intruders, and the adaptation of technologies like virtualiza- tion and emulation.

IIES intends to cover these current topics in embedded systems isolation and integration from hardware- to application-level. Of special interest are the chal- lenges posed by future hardware and software technologies.

This fourth edition of the IIES workshop aims to bring together researchers and developers from all areas of embedded systems to discuss the impact of these new challenges and present their current research. We intend to inspire a lively discussion of the novel approaches in integration and isolation of embedded systems and the associated challenges and prospects.

Suggested topics for papers and discussion include, but are not restricted to:

- Support for temporal and spatial isolation of system and application code
- System- and language-based isolation and integration techniques
- Isolation mechanisms for dependability
- Isolation mechanisms and resource constraints - memory, energy, performance
- Interaction and resource sharing between isolated components
- Lightweight address space models for isolation
- Platform integration of embedded systems
- Virtualization in embedded systems
- Integration of legacy embedded systems in new designs
- Experience reports and details on performance, energy and cost evaluations

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

IIES welcomes research, experience, and position papers. Submissions must be no more than six pages in length (A4 format) in ACM SIG proceedings format (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). Please submit your papers via EasyChair. The submission URL is https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iies2011.

Accepted papers will be published online in the ACM Digital Library. In addi- tion, the papers will be distributed electronically among the participants prior to the workshop. Detailed information will be available on the IIES web page.

IMPORTANT DATES

August 8, 2011 - Paper submission
September 5, 2011 - Notification of acceptance
September 26, 2011 - Submission of camera-ready versions
October 9, 2011 - Workshop

WORKSHOP PREPARATION AND FORMAT

This workshop will be highly interactive. Accepted papers will be distributed among the participants ahead of the workshop and participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the topics presented. In particular, participants may prepare questions, comments and a list of suggested improvements for the authors of topics they are interested in.

To prepare a special collaborative work session, the organizers will use the accepted papers and the input by the participants to compile a list of questions, which will be discussed and answered during the workshop in discussion groups. The list can be extended or changed during the workshop, if the discussion brings up additional interesting questions.

VENUE

IIES 2011 will take place in Taipei, Taiwan as part of Embedded Systems Week 2011 (http://www.esweek.org). ESweek hosts the well-known CASES, CODES/ISSS, and EMSOFT conferences as well as a selection of workshops covering diverse areas of embedded systems.
