Special Issue On: Computing with Words

Guest Editors:
Shahram Rahimi
Fred Petry
Elham S. Khorasani

Introduction and Objective of the Special Issue:
The phrase “computing with words (CW)” was first introduced in 1996 by Zadeh as: A computational system in which the objects of computations are words and propositions drawn from natural language. It is inspired by the human remarkable capability to perform a wide variety of physical and mental tasks without any measurements or computations. CW paradigm offers two important capabilities over traditional computational systems: first, to represent imprecise words and propositions drawn from natural language and second, to provide a set of inference rules for performing computation on words and perceptions. Given the importance of this new exciting direction for fuzzy logic, there have been many researchers that have attempted to develop CW in theoretical or practical directions. This special issue aims at publishing papers addressing theories, methods, and applications in computing with words. The aim of this special issue is to highlight the most significant recent developments on the topics of CW, to identify the most recent research directions.

Recommended Topics:
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

Agent-based models of linguistic communication
Applications of CW in decision making, data mining, question answering, and natural language understanding
Assessment of CW inferential and representational capabilities
CW and computing with Z-numbers
Interpretability versus accuracy in CW
Linguistic aspects of CW
Logical formalization of CW
Methodologies for CW-based automated reasoning
Representational frameworks
Theory and development of CW paradigms and algorithms
Validation of CW paradigms
Word perceptions

Submission Procedure:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue Computing with Words on or before November 15. 2011. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. Interested authors should consult the journal’s guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/Files/AuthorEditor/guidelinessubmission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.
