Call For Papers

We invite submissions for the second issue of The Centennial Reader. Essays can be on any topic of interest to an informed, Canadian audience.

As part of its centennial celebrations during 2010‐2011, Mount Royal University began an online, peer‐reviewed database of essays to offer a publication forum for intellectual discussion for Canadian writers. The Mount Royal Centennial Reader straddles both worlds: the academic world and the popular publication world. Submissions should therefore apply intellectual thought to topical concerns, offered in an entertaining and popular way.

We are looking for essays that use academic research, written to reach a thoughtful, popular audience. Articles should not be written to an academic audience; neither are the submissions to be newspaper articles. For examples of the type of article we’re looking for, please see our inaugural issue at thecentennial.ca.

All submissions will be subject to an interdisciplinary peer‐review process. Criteria for evaluation will include:

1) Quality of insight
2) Quality of research
3) Quality of writing
4) Reader engagement and appeal

Submissions are open to anyone, and not limited to any topic. All writers are encouraged to use the number “100” in the essay body. We will accept submissions in two categories:

1) Longer essay submissions: For longer‐essay submissions, contributions should be between 2000 and 4000 words. Contributors are paid 200 dollars (CAD) for their essay, upon publication.

2) Short‐essay submissions: contributions should be 1000 to 2000 words long. Contributors are paid 100 dollars (CAD) for their essay, upon publication.

Completed manuscripts should be submitted electronically, as MS Word attachments, by March 31, 2011 to submissions@thecentennial.ca
