CALL FOR PAPERS
Designing Comprehensible Intelligent Systems (DeCIS)
Special Session at the
9th International Conference on
Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDA'09)
PISA, ITALY
November 30 - December 2, 2009

******* EXTENDED DEADLINE: JUNE 20, 2009 ********

* AIMS AND TOPICS *
Comprehensibilty is one of the most challenging issues in the design
of intelligent systems, especially those coming from the application
of Computational Intelligence paradigms. Whilst transparency can be
achieved by employing specific structures of knowledge representation
(such as fuzzy rules), comprehensibility has much more profound
implications due to the tight involvement of users. The aim of this
special session is to provide a forum to disseminate and discuss
recent and significant advances on designing comprehensible
intelligent systems, dealing with current challenges and new trends.
We expect this session to offer a forum for researchers and industry
practitioners to present their research results and share their
practical development experiences in designing comprehensible
intelligent systems. By encouraging idea-sharing and discussions on
the use of computational intelligence techniques as valid
technologies for increasing comprehensibility of systems we expect
the session to provide a significant contribution to the field in
the form of new research challenges and approaches.

Topics of interests include (but are not limited to):
A. Comprehensibility achievement
B. Comprehensibility assessment
C. Comprehensibility issues
D. Techniques to design comprehensible Intelligent Systems
E. Comprehensibility-Accuracy trade-off
F. Comprehensibility enforcement

* SUBMISSIONS *
Prospective authors are invited to submit a full paper of 4-6 pages
(PDF). Authors must adhere to the IEEE 8.5 two-column format (see
the Conference web site for details). Papers should contain up to 5
keywords.Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance,
clarity and soundness, and will be reviewed by at least three
independent reviewers.
Accepted papers will be published by IEEE and will be included in
the proceedings of ISDA'09. Also, they will be included in the IEEE
Xplore digital library (IEL, http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/).
Authors of selected ISDA'09 papers will be invited to submit an
extended version of their contribution for possible inclusion in
special issues of the following international journals.

Applied Soft Computing
Soft Computing
Evolutionary Intelligence
International Journal of Hybrid Intelligent Systems
Neural Network World
Int. Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems
Int. Journal of Computational Intelligence and Applications

All submitted papers will be reviewed on the basis of technical
quality, relevance, significance, and clarity. All submissions must
be done through the ISDA'09 EasyChair System

* IMPORTANT DATES *
Deadline for paper submission: NEW! June 20, 2009
