Call For Papers

Recent technological developments in imaging, processing, and networking have created an opportunity formulti-disciplinary approaches to applications based on vision. The extensive availability and use of cameras in various application domains calls for the study of new embedded and distributed processing systems and algorithms. Processing at the image acquisition point reduces bandwidth usage and allows for large-scalenetwork operation. New challenges are hence created to study the organization and configuration of smartcamera networks in which sensor clusters organize with respect to topology, communication protocol, powerconsumption, or the observed event in order to improve the network awareness and operability. In addition, theneed to create new collaborative methods based on distributed processing of visual data has led to a newdevelopment area in distributed computer vision with potentials for a profound impact on the next generation ofvision algorithms.

The fourth edition of the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras will be held inAtlanta. The conference will attract researchers from multiple fields such as computer vision, pervasivecomputing, embedded systems and sensor networks. Thus, it presents a good opportunity to share the mostadvanced achievements within each field and offers an opportunity to establish new research collaborations.

Contributions will be expected in, but not limited to, the following areas: smart camera and multi-modal systems and algorithms, data fusion techniques, context-aware networks, video surveillance, smart environments, sports and other emerging applications, embedded platforms and sensor networks.

Accepted papers will be published and catalogued at IEEEexplore. Best articles will be selected for the publication of their extended versions in a journal special issue.

The conference invites researchers and industry-based developers to participate in a demo session and present the latest results implemented in related areas.

A challenge session will showcase developments in the use of smart phones in collaborative vision or multimodal sensor fusion applications.

Proposals for special sessions are encouraged to cluster technical advances in specific research areasconnected to the main topics of the conference. Topics should focus on interdisciplinary approaches or technological readiness for application development.

As with the previous editions, ICDSC 2010 will also feature a PhD Forum program where students presentand defend their research topics and receive feedback from a panel of faculty.
