2009 IEEE Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Visual Intelligence

The 2009 IEEE Symposium on CI for Visual Intelligence will gather researchers in the area of Computational Intelligence with the specific interests, in particular, in image manipulation, mental imagery, spatial reasoning, vision-driven navigation, map building, and shape and object representation and recognition.

The term -- Visual Intelligence -- was borrowed from the Psychology circles, and it refers to one of the seven types of Human Intelligence: Logical, Musical, Linguistic... and Visual (or Visual-Spatial) Intelligence. Also, Visual Intelligence refers to the ability to represent the outer world (spatial world) internally in the computer systems. In that sense, the focus of the meeting is not only on how robots (and other systems) observe and acquire the environment (namely, by using computer vision) but also on how it internally represents, handles and depicts that space.

The topics covered by the meeting include the many conventional and novel computational intelligence techniques addressing, but not limited to the following:

• Mobile Robot Navigation and Mapping Building
• Video Surveillance and Monitoring
• Motion and Tracking
• Image-Based Object Modeling
• Shape Representation
• Multi-view Geometry
• Pattern Recognition for Visual Intelligence
• Modelling and Representation of Spaces
• Cognitive and Biologically-inspired Vision
• Knowledge Representation and High-Level Vision
• Face, Gesture and Object Recognition
• Object Detection and Categorization
• Video Analysis and Event Recognition
