GOALS

As software requirements constantly increase in size and complexity, the need for methods, formalisms, techniques, tools and languages for managing and evolving software artifacts become crucial. One way to manage variability when dealing with a rapidly growing variety of software products is through developing and maintaining families of software products rather than individual products. Variability management is concerned with controlling the versions and the possible variants of software systems. Variability management gained a special interest in various software-related areas in different phases of the software development lifecycle. These areas include conceptual modeling, product-line engineering, feature analysis, software reuse, configuration management, generative programming and programming language design. The purpose of this workshop is to promote the theme of variability management from different perspectives. In particular, it aims at providing a venue for researchers and practitioners interested in software variability management, in order to identify possible points of synergy, common problems and solutions, and visions for the future of the area.


SCOPE

The workshop thus solicits papers in topics including, but not limited to:

- Conceptual foundations of variability management;

- Methods and techniques to support variability management;

- Theoretical and empirical evaluation of variability management techniques;

- Formal approaches for variability specification, modeling and analysis;

- Techniques and solutions to avoid, detect or resolve conflicts between variants;

- Application of variability management utilities;

- Case studies and practice reports related to variability management;

- Integration of variability management with existing development approaches;

- Development tools and language support for software variability;

- Managing dynamic variability;

- Comparing or classifying different variability management approaches.


PAPER SUBMISSION

All submitted papers will be reviewed by three program committee members. Papers must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Any duplicate submissions will be rejected without review. Research-in-progress and position papers will be considered as well.


Papers must not exceed 10 pages in Springer LNCS format which is available at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.
Submissions should be made through EasyChair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=variabilityer11.

A pre-submission on EasyChair of title and abstract is required (intention to submit) one week before the actual paper submission date.



PUBLICATION

Paper acceptance will be based upon its relevance to the main workshop topics, on its quality and on its potential to stimulate discussion in the workshop. Accepted papers will be published in Springer LNCS workshop proceedings.

All accepted papers will be presented at the workshop.
