The Seminar on Ontology Research in Brazil (ONTOBRAS) is a consolidated forum for researchers and professionals to share theoretical, methodological, and practical advances in ontology development and application. Since 2005, ONTOBRAS has been recognized as the main scientific event in Brazil dedicated to ontologies and their use across various domains.
ONTOBRAS 2026 will take place on September 23, 2026, co-located with FOIS 2026 (16th International Conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems). We invite the entire Brazilian ontology community to participate in FOIS, from September 21 to 25, 2026. However, for those who wish to attend ONTOBRAS exclusively, there will be a one-day registration option (one-day pass). The ONTOBRAS proceedings have been published under the IAOA series of CEUR-WS.org since 2019, and the Brazilian seminar is part of its official events calendar. 📅 Important Dates: - Submission Deadline: May 22, 2026 - Notification of Acceptance: July 13, 2026 - Camera-ready Version and Author Registration: August 24, 2026 📄 Submission Guidelines: The following types of papers are accepted (page limits exclude references): - Full papers (up to 12 pages): Mature research contributions, including advanced student work with substantial results. - Short papers (up to 6 pages): Early-stage research, partial results, or conceptual discussions. 🌐 Languages accepted: English (preferred), Portuguese, or Spanish. If written in Portuguese or Spanish, the submission must include an abstract and keywords in English. 🔗 Submission system: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=fois2026 (select the track “Ontobras”). Templates for Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, and LaTeX can be downloaded at: https://www.inf.ufrgs.br/ontobras/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/CEUR-Template-1col_ONTOBRAS_2026.zip. 📚 Topics of Interest include, but are not limited to: - Foundations and theory: ontological principles, foundational/top-level ontologies, meta-modeling, and formal analysis. - Domain, reference, and application ontologies in any field of knowledge. Knowledge organization systems: terminologies, folksonomies, thesauri, taxonomies, and metadata. - Ontology-based knowledge graphs (KGs) and conceptual models. - Ontology governance, quality, and maturity, including the application of FAIR principles. - Ontology engineering: methodologies, techniques, practices, languages, modularization, and design patterns. - Ontology tooling: tools for ontology construction, reasoning, validation, visualization, publication, and repositories. - Use of ontologies for data integration and interoperability, Semantic Web, Linked Data, and Ontology-based information retrieval. - Applications using ontologies in scientific, industrial, organizational, and governmental contexts, among others. - Data, information, and knowledge management based on ontologies. - Intersections between ontologies and other fields, such as data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning (e.g., neuro-symbolic AI, explainable AI). The list is indicative and not exhaustive. Works aligned with the scope of the event will be considered, even if they do not fall explicitly under the topics mentioned above. ======================================================================================== ONTOBRAS 2026 Organization: General Chair Vítor E.
