Call for papers: Special Issue on Metaverse

Journal Information Technology & Tourism (2021 Impact Factor: 6.093)

Guest editors: Rodolfo Baggio & Giovanni Ruggieri

Short abstracts should be submitted no later than November 30th, 2022
Full papers should be submitted no later than February 28th, 2023

Background
Metaverse is quite a hot topic in this period and is thought to be going to permeate virtually every human activity. The interest is higher than ever, and the tourism and hospitality domain is no exception.
This special issue aims at stimulating further interdisciplinary research and development and seeks to fulfil two objectives: one is to describe and discuss the technologies available today and in the near foreseeable future that support applications of these virtual worlds for business, training or education, collaboration, or entertainment, together with their requirements in terms of computing power and performance and connectivity. The second is to explore possible applications in tourism and hospitality evaluating their feasibility, the costs, the possible advantages, and the issues they raise.
Special attention will be given to contributions dealing with theoretical and experimental studies on metaverse-related technology, content, platform, business, user interface, and user experience. Preference will be given to works firmly rooted in technology and computer science.

Topics of specific interest
Possible topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
Web-based technologies
Simulation environments
Multi-scale network environments
Collaborative environments
Blockchain technologies to support metaverse ownership
AI applications and solutions
Human–computer interactions
Ethical and legal issues and requirements

Schedule and Deadlines
Short abstracts: November 30th, 2022
Full Papers are required no later than February 28th, 2023

Authors are invited to submit a short abstract (300-500 words) containing objectives, data and methods, actual or foreseen outcomes, contribution(s) to the field. Abstracts should be sent directly to the guest editors: rodolfo.baggio@unibocconi.it and giovanni.ruggieri@unipa.it

Authors of accepted abstracts will prepare full papers following the instructions at: https://www.springer.com/journal/40558/submission-guidelines and submit through the Springer online system (if you are a new author to the system, you will be required to create a system login). https://www.editorialmanager.com/jitt/.

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out.

The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation. The journal imposes no hard limits on the paper length as long as what authors write is important. Submissions that exceed 40 pages in journal format (including illustrations and references) should, however, be accompanied by a short justification as to why a briefer description and discussion of their research is not advisable or possible.

Any questions related to this special issue should be directed to:
Rodolfo Baggio, Bocconi University, Milan, Italy, rodolfo.baggio@unibocconi.it
Giovanni Ruggieri, University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, giovanni.ruggieri@unipa.it
