CALL FOR PAPERS
Annual Meeting on Law, Property, and Society The Association of Law, Property, and Society (ALPS) will hold its annual meeting at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 4-6, 2026. The dates include an optional pre-conference field trip during the afternoon of June 4 and an evening reception that day. The academic portion of the conference will be on Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, with concurrent panels and plenary sessions running all day on both days. ALPS is an open and welcoming international organization of scholars and teachers engaged in a wide range of interdisciplinary research covering all aspects of property law, policy, and theory, and the role property plays in social structures, human relationships, and ecology. We promote informed dialogue among scholars at all stages of their careers, from around the world, and from across disciplines. Meeting Themes ALPS annual meetings include participants representing numerous countries and working in common law, civil law, Indigenous laws, international law, transnational law, and mixed legal traditions. Presentation submissions on any subject related to property law and the practices that shape property norms and institutions are welcome. Possible organizing themes include, but are not limited to: land use planning, zoning, water law, environmental law, energy law, mortgages and financing, land titles, legal issues related to housing and homelessness, real estate development, cultural property, historic and heritage preservation, property of Indigenous peoples, comparative perspectives on property law, race and gender issues in property, intellectual property rights, property theory, and takings law. ALPS maintains, at its core, a strong commitment to international and interdisciplinary diversity, and topics reflecting that commitment are encouraged. Submission Guidelines ALPS welcomes presentations of projects at all stages of development, from recently published works to early-stage ideas. ALPS accepts both individual paper submissions and submissions for fully formed panels (3 to 4 papers per panel submission). Submissions should include an abstract of no more than 250 words submitted through the ALPS Conference Proposal Submission Portal (https://alps-law.org/submissions). Within the Submissions Portal, applicants will be asked to include: (1) the name of the submitting scholar, (2) the scholar’s institution, (3) an email for contact, (4) a list of five keywords, and (5) where appropriate, parallel information for any coauthors. If a fully formed panel is being submitted, please submit all of the abstracts and all of the aforementioned contact information for all participants within the Submissions Portal. The deadline for submitting papers and panels to the ALPS Submissions Portal (https://alps-law.org/submissions) is November 30, 2025. No late submissions will be accepted. All individuals will be notified of the acceptance of their submission by mid-January 2026. In general, each presenter will be limited to one research paper presentation per conference, although some exceptions may be made for special discussion groups or other unique thematic panels. After reviewing and accepting submissions, ALPS will thematically group accepted papers and panels. Concurrent panels will be held on both days of the conference (June 5 and 6) with each panel session lasting approximately 90 minutes and including both individual presentations and time for questions from the audience. Each presenter will have 10 -15 minutes for their individual presentation with an additional 5-10 minutes for audience questions. Accepted abstracts will be included in a “long program” for participants and may be made publicly available. Please indicate upon submission of your abstract if you do not wish to have your abstract included and would instead prefer to have your presentation only identified by the title provided. Virtual Participation ALPS will run its conference in a hybrid fashion with remote options available for a limited number of concurrent panels and plenary panels. While individuals may submit paper submissions to be presented virtually, there will be fewer virtual panels than in-person panels. If you are submitting a presentation to be presented virtually, that must be indicated upon submission to the ALPS Submissions Portal (https://alps-law.org/submissions), along with the aforementioned information. Due to planning logistics, we will not be able to accommodate changes to the selected presentation mode (virtual or in-person) after paper or panel abstracts have been submitted. Virtual participation in the conference will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on Central Daylight Time, generally from 9am to 5pm, and virtual participants are expected to present live during the conference. We will be unable to accommodate individual scheduling requests. Registration All meeting attendees must register whether they are presenting a paper or not. Conference registration is now open on the conference website (https://web.cvent.com/event/9c220a0d-fcc6-4385-ade1-e8c2d8985e0e/summary) with early-bird registration fees available until February 1, 2026. While final conference attendance registration will close on May 1, 2026, to ensure a place on the final conference program, all presenters must register before February 28, 2026.
