This special issue was launched at 2017, and this year (2020) we accept submissions.

--------------------------------------------------
Medical imaging is a technique to create visual representations of the inferior of the body, with the aim of making accurate decisions and appropriate treatments. Measurement and recording techniques are primarily designed to produce images, such as computer tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/functional MRI (fMRI).

Nevertheless, human interpretation on medical images is tedious, and the slight lesions may be overlooked. This urges scholars to develop advanced signal processing methods for a wide of low-level and high-level applications. The low-level applications include image smoothing, image enhancement, image registration, image segmentation, image reconstruction, etc. The high-level applications can be used to determine the diameter, volume and vasculature of a tumor, to diagnose whether a subject is pathological and how severe it is. Those applications need more advanced techniques than ever, for example: computer vision, pattern recognition, soft computing, artificial intelligence, etc.

This special section aims to bring the latest results over advanced signal processing techniques in medical imaging. It can both help physicians and radiologists in the image interpretation, and help technicians to exchange the latest technical progresses.
