Call For Papers

We’re now inviting abstract submissions for our 2022 Research Conference ‘Striving for equality, diversity and inclusion in research, practice and policy’ which will be held in Dundee and online on 20-21 May 2022 with co-hosts The University of Abertay.

We welcome abstract submissions on any topic, but all submissions should address the theme of equality, diversity and inclusion either directly or indirectly. Unless noted, all submissions can either be delivered online or in-person. An abstract is required for every submission type as they all undergo blind peer review by an independent panel.

BACP is committed to improving EDI by recognising and addressing barriers to entry into the profession and supporting a skilled, competent and diverse workforce to deliver therapy to people from all sections of UK society. BACP believes in creating a 'counselling profession of the future'. We are working towards embodying the values that underpin equality, diversity, and inclusion to address individual and structural and societal discrimination at all levels. This includes a continuous focus on embedding EDI into training, professional development, research, communications and membership.

We welcome abstract submissions from all methodological perspectives and all theoretical orientations, from students, practitioners and experienced researchers alike.

We accept submissions for:

• Research Papers: 30 minute sessions presenting counselling or psychotherapy research you have undertaken
• Discussion papers (in-person event only): 30 minute sessions presenting research-related work, such as an overview identifying issues and questions relevant to counselling and psychotherapy research or a review of research literature
• Methods workshops (in-person event only): 60 minute sessions aimed at introducing a particular research or analysis method relevant to counselling and psychotherapy, providing opportunities for practical and experiential learning
• Lightning talks: 10 minute slots presenting early development work of a research project.
• Posters: A visually eye-catching format to present your research, including a one-minute platform to talk about your work, plus inclusion in the online poster exhibition
• Symposia: 90 minute sessions providing three or four presentations (plus an overview) on a particular theme or subject in counselling and psychotherapy research

For more information and details of how to submit see our submission guidelines.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is 11.59pm on Monday 1 November 2021.
